D&D 5E (More) ruminations on the future of D&D

My pre-d20 experience is limited to a 2nd Edition game a buddy put together as a lark. We spent weeks trying to figure out what we were doing, and ended in a TPK from a random encounter with rats.

My desire to try the old systems is low, but the modules and fiction intrigue me still; my preteen brother-in-law is also super-excited by that sort of thing. Just because something is old, doesn't mean it lacks youth appeal.

My go-to offer, if we ever find ourselves unable to meet our regular Star Wars campaign but still want to get together, is that I'll run a mini-campaign of Keep on the Borderlands and Isle of Dread with the actual B/X rules.

Although the modules sound kinda fun, I'm actually not that thrilled to revisit the B/X rules. When I was re-reading them a few months ago, they were worse than I remembered.

Try them with Basic Fantasy or ACKS.

or ACKs if you prefer things like character options.
