Morningstar now in stores; Boundless Blue, EN World Player's Journal Right Behind It

First Post
The prophecy has been fulfilled! Morningstar is now in stores. This is the world that was selected for the final 11 out of more than 10,000 submissions in the WotC Setting Search Contest. Can you foil the dark prophecy known as the Canticle of the Morning Star?

Following close on Morningstar's heels are Monsters of the Boundless Blue and EN World Player's Journal #3. Both are shipping to distributors this week, and subscriber copies of the Journal have already been mailed.

I'll be looking for Morningstar.

Quick question: in the preview PDF, the racial classes all say "Class skills ... As [X]", where X is a regular class. How about the number of skill points per level? Are those also as the appropriate X?

Just a quick post before bed...

Yes, that's the way it works. We didn't want to use a lot of space up with redundant info, so we went that way.

I'm glad to hear that you'll be picking it up. Pay attention to the boards starting next week, you might be in for a surprise. :D

Mr. Goodman:

Do you have an idea of the ETA of the Underdark Adventure Guide?

With the caveat that everything I'm about to say hinges on the printer meeting their schedule, here's an update: It's supposed to ship from the printer next week. I should have copies with which to fill preorders and online orders by the beginning of the following week, if not sooner. The transit time from printer to warehouse to distributors to retailers takes 1-2 weeks, which puts it in stores the last week of October or first week of November.

Hope that helps. :)

Web Supplement Extras?

Any chance we'll see a freebie on the web talking about how to use Bluffside, Freeport, or Redhurst in the Morningstar setting? One of the great things about Redhurst, in my opinion, was the effort made to give readers an idea of how the school might work in almost any setting. Freeport has also seen use in the Hunt, Paradim's Arcanis, and I think one or two other settings so it'd be nice to see some ideas on how to use this pirate infested land. Perhaps the Empire uses them as mercenaries in their wars on and under the seas?

In future Complete Guides and Wanderer's Guild monster books, any chance of an appendix with quick notes on how to use that material in Morningstar? For Beholders and their cults, I can easily see how the beholders would use those thinking their worshipping gods to their advantage, claiming to be avatars or something to further their own ends.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm looking into those things right now. There are bound to be issues with using some materials, particularly those that assume a standard medieval setting, but many third party products fit right in. For example, EN Publishing's Elements of Magic would fit right in with spectrum mechanics, As might The Sigil's Enchiridion series. Thought has been put into the fact that my audience will be mostly fans of third party materials.

That said, I'll try to work something like that up. Redhurst in particular, should fit perfectly.

As for 'How to use this book in Morningstar' type guidelines, I think that would be cool, but I wouldn't expect Goodman Games to do that. Morningstar is not a Goodman Games house setting, per se, and atop all the other settings and unique worlds coming down the pipe from them, that kind of appendix to a book would get huge. Still, I might write a web enhancement for that purpose, if Joseph agrees, and once I get some of my other obligations out of the way.

One consideration is that I'm doing all the writing for Moningstar... Every book, article and web enhancement has been, and is going to be, written by me. I'll be doing my best, and will make sure that Morningstar is fully supported (We have numerous great things in the works, by way of web support), but don't be too hard on me. :D Writing Morningstar stuff is basically a full time job. Morningstar's here to stay, and for those who become fans of the world, there will never be a dearth of material.

Goodman Games also has a great policy of fan submissions, for those who wish to help in the interim, or add their mark to the world.

Thank you though, I've been taking all of your suggestions to heart, and trying to work them into my game plan. Anyone else who has questions or suggestions, please feel free to post them on the boards or email me.
