Morrus’ Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk #2: Just How Big Is D&D Anyway?

Today on Morrus Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk, we talk about the the size of the tabletop RPG market - with statistics and everything! - and Dungeons & Dragon's share of that market. We also reveal the things which caught our eye this week, including The Fall of Delta Green and Dusk City Outlaws; three white men talk about sexual harassment reports from Origins; we play our favourite game in all the world, stumble through a new sketch in which an old man tried to give a quest to a noble knight, and answer your GM questions. What could be better than that?

In the 40+ years I've been playing, I've been astounded at the growth of the game industry, if not the game itself. For decades we had to create off the seat of our pants and it seems that these days you can't hit a website on the subject without being overwhelmed at the number of materials available these days. It can bankrupt a poor DM living on a retirement income! I'm proud of the game, and the industry, and wish I'd kept better notes in the early days so I could produce materials for the market.

My thanks to all those other folks who have dedicated major portions of their lives and resources. From someone who has played the sand tables, used the mimeograph copies of early "rules," played the early modem driven online VTTs, I congratulate you all and highly recommend you keep good notes to share. Especially those working with younger children. There is a need for materials for that particular market.

To paraphrase, "We who are about to dice, salute you."
