Fun to read:

d20
Dawning Star (hot-off-the-press sci-fi book with top-quality production values, fascinating story)
Bulldogs! (another great sci-fi book)
Denizens of Avadnu (great monster descriptions and encounter ideas)
Legends of Avadnu (more great monsters for your next game, but higher level this time)

non-d20
Capes (inspiring superhero game without a GM)
Conspiracy of Shadows (creepy demonic stuff with lots of great illustrations)

I can probably think of more, especially non-d20 (since I've been getting a lot of that lately), but these are the ones I've read most recently and enjoyed.

Most Fun:
Monsternomicon
Draconomicon
Lords of Madness
Eberron Campaign Setting
Call of Cthulhu d20

Least Fun:
Savage Species - I just find it to be too dull...
Iron Kingdom's Character Guide - Mainly due to the fact that I don't really like how some of the info is laid out, plus there's A LOT of info to absorb. Too much sometimes. I think I might like it more if I read the World Guide first.
Sharn: City of Towers - Full of great info, but there's a lot to absorb and it's pretty dry.
The Three Core Books

Good: For a WotC book - the Eberron Campaign setting, the first 'official' setting that has tempted me in quite some time.

For Non WotC -

World of Harn by Columbia

Any of the Iron Kingdoms hardcovers.

And just because I have not seen it mentioned - Redhurst Academy by Human Head Studios.

Bad: Mostly bad system books... does anybody remember the Mega system?

For a WotC book the Hero Builder's Guide... what a waste of paper!

The Auld Grump

another vote for Valus and Volo's guides. both read like novels with some of the best fiction writing ive seen in the industry.

i know others didnt, but i actually liked Savage Species, though i never was able to get any use from it.

other than those, my favourite is to read old 1E modules. dont know why. nostalgia i guess.

W.P.

My favorite RPG books to just pick up and read for it's own sake are d20 Call of Cthulhu, the Monsternomicon and Lords of Madness. Can't go wrong with any of those.
