Search. About every 15'. In every dungeon/adventure I've ever run them through. And almost every one is rolled, not taking 10/20 on, so not a lot of room for wandering monsters to *ahem* convince them *ahem* to choose a different course of action. But I'm not complaining, I handle it pretty well, and it doesn't slow the game down much.

I find in my group that listen is used more than spot. They will usually hear things before they see them, unless they are in an open area, a city, or places where ambient noise drowns out most of the sound. Next, search would be the most used since they search every square inch of everything, even it cost them more encounters. I have to disguise traps especially well to make them worth having.

Although I will admit I am not counting all the times spot is useful outside of spotting enemies, but unless its important I will make them call for a check.

We use "Profession: Cobbler" quite a bit because all the PCs are gnomish shoemakers. Pretty much they sit around making shoes and arguing about who has produced the most comfortable and stylish shoe. Truthfully, my answer was "Spot" but this seemed like it would make for a better read for those of you who have made it down this far.:D

Listen, Search and Spot are all about tied for most used in the games I participate in.
Climb, Jump, Swim and Wilderness Lore are the next most used.
