In my game, longswords are the most "popular", simply because I have determined that they are the only ones commonly available. For this reason, prices of other blades range from 5 to 10 times PHB cost, must be custom commissioned by a weaponsmith (taking a week or so to forge), and may never be purchased at character creation.

I do also have a mini-longsword that I call the lightblade or smallblade, I use the same stats as the shortsword, but it's a slashing weapon, for the little people (gnomes and halflings). It is treated as a longsword in terms of availability.

May I ask why this is? It seems odd, and so you've made me curious.

People seems to like Long Swords, Bastard Swords and Katanas, followed by Greatswords.
I kinda guessed it would be like that.
Longswords being the clear winner.
I though short swords would have done a little better, but I guess they just don't deal the damage munchkins can get with bigger swords and or 'Monkey Grip'.

The Small Scimitar! :D

I came up with these during my last D&D campaign using the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting. I had a group of goblin raiders on wolves use these with some surprising effectiveness.

Small Scimitar
Small, Slashing Martial Weapon (15 gp)
1D4 Damage, 18-20/x2, 3 lbs

Yeah, they're not ground-breaking but I took a real liking to the little guys after a few encounters.

Mercurial Greatswords, from S&F. When I want to use a sword in a non-oriental campaign, that is definitely the way to go...
Big damage high Crit aye?
Do you monkey grip that sucker! :)

You wacky munchkin, it's like a non-exotic larger kukri.

Kukri
Tiny, Slashing Exotic Weapon (8 gp)
1D4 Damage, 18-20/x2, 3 lbs

Munchkins! Munchkins every-where!!!

Our paladin uses a sword (bastard sword I think), but he's the only one. The rest of us use a waraxe, light mace and ranged weapons. Of course we have more spellcasters and rogues than straight fighters.

Bastard Sword since 1996. I'm fond of most western slashing blades. And back when my munchkin influences were stronger, the Bastard was the best in the business.
