I played in a game where I came in at 7th level with one character, and departed the group with a 17th level character, having played in the campaign continuously from one to the other.
Other than that, we started a Planescape game at about 9th and finished it in the epic levels with divine ranks after the DM allowed some very funky house rules. Never really played the character in his demigod-epic state, but it's nice to know he was out there somewhere.
