Probably the simplest:

Ring of protection +#

Potions of healing

Portable hole

bag of holding

But that's pretty bland. I've always loved it when PCs ended up with Wands of Wonder in my campaign. In my opinion, they are one of those pure Gygaxian items - they can bring weal or woe, and can have some really zany effects. I loved the old dragon magazine article that had different varieties of Wands of Wonder.

Courtesy of a Wand of Wonder, a BBEG was once defeated by the illusionist's Wand of Wonder - he ended up inflating and floating away, cursing the PCs the whole time.

Oddly enough it's one that we developed independently - they're essentially a much more useful version of the 'stones of sending', implementing rary's telepathic bond.

Communication amongst party members is *critical* in our game.

Hmmm...

Heward's Handy Haversack
Rings of Protection +*
Cloak/Vest of Resistance +*
Wand of Cure Light Wounds
Flying Carpet
Slippers of Spider Climb

(Or, a way to carry things easily, a way to protect yourself, a way to heal, and a way to travel.)

In a high-level game I found the Iron Fortress - the little box you set down and say a phrase, turning it into a protected tower - to be tons of useful fun, both as simple domicile, and also as an occasional weapon/battlefield control. But it's really expensive and, well as I said, high level play.

Qal's feather tokens. At least at low levels, everytime I dropped one of these in as treasure- I'd see it used, without fail.

Esepcially tree (by far the most fun), swan boat, and bird.
