MotW: deepwood sniper and true strike

WotC's bitch
Gaining true strike once per day seems pretty piss-poor as a 10th level ability. I was thinking of changing it to intuitive archery mastery instead. This basically gives the true strike ability on all bow attacks for 1 round, usable three times per day.

Would this be fair? Overpowered?

On the outset, getting a single 1st level spell is pretty weak. However it fits with the PrC. The +20 from the spell overcomes the 10 range increment penalty so you can shoot your composite longbow up to 1750 feet without a penalty. At that level, the bonuses to hit will be high.

The 1750 feet comes from normal increment 110 feet + far shot (pre req) + 100 feet extra at 10th level.

The more you give them True Strike, the more this extreme a shot will become normal.

Not really something I would want in my games, but you might be happy with in yours.

I think 3x per day applying to all attacks in that round would be far too powerful.

My house rule - +20 bonus for 1 round, split over your attacks as desired. So you can have one arrow at +20 and the rest at no bonus, 4 arrows at +5/+5/+5/+5 or even +2/+7/+1/+10 if you want...

Gives some flexibility without overpowering the ability IMHO.

I really don't think it would be _that_ powerful. Now if a ranged equivalent of Power Attack existed, then yes, it would be very nice. However, as it stands, it basically means the archer gets a guaranteed 4-5 hits (depending on whether they have Rapid Shot), three times per day. Given the other benefits of the class (concealment reduction, take aim, consistent aim), plus the usual powerups, they're probably already getting 2-3 guaranteed hits per round anyway. So it's not that major.

IMC they can use the True Strike and Magic Weapon abilities a number of times per day equal to their Wis modifier +1.

Just a quick fix I noted down when I noticed that the PrC's 10th level ability was casting a 1st level spell 1/day.

Greater magic weapon at 2nd level?

On a related note, I also just noticed that the magic weapon ability at 2nd level is utterly lame. As if a maxed-out archer character isn't going to have at least a +1 bow at 7th level.

Would changing it to greater magic weapon 1/day, as cast by a cleric of the same level, be reasonable? (Ie, you get a +1 bow or 50 +1 arrows from 1st to 5th level, then a +2 bow or 50 +2 arrows from 6th to 8th level, and a +3 bow or 50 +3 arrows at 9th to 10th level.)

I actually like thre magic weapon. Sure, a maxed out character might have a magic bow, but that doesn't apply to everyone. I like characters that can function without magic and I think it erally says something that they have included abilities like this so the guy can function without a magic bow, but use his own abilities to make it better.

But, in a more magic oriented world I can see the change being acceptible.

Fair enough. Mind you, the GMW spell could fill the same purpose, and still have usefulness in a more typical moderate-magic D&D world.

S'funny. I never thought I'd be powering up a PrC for inclusion in a campaign, as opposed to nerfing one. :)

Wow. You´r right, true strike is only once a day. I think that even been able to cast it at will is not too powerful for a tenth level ability.

Actually, I perfer powering it up, to weakening. Makes the PCs realy happy. I also really like this class. I think it would make for a fun character.

Overall your changes seem to about right.
