MotW: Foe Hunter(Human)

EOL

First Post
What first struck me, reading about it on the boards, was how nasty a forsaker could be as an NPC. Now that I've got the book I see where the Foe Hunter could also be an especially nasty NPC. If that hunter choose as their foe, human (or whatever the predominant race in your party is) then they suddenly have DR, SR, and an additional 5d6 of damage every round. Seems like one or two of those could slice and dice the party pretty quick. Anyone else notice this?

Perhaps this is WoTC's way of enforcing politically correct diversity within parties. :D

I wouldn't say broken, unless you mean that it's underpowered.

If you take 10 level of Foe Hunter, you can positively dominate combat against your favored enemy. Spell resistance, damage resistance, oodles of damage...

But against everyone else, these 10 levels are barely worth 10 level as a Warrior NPC class.

Unless your favored enemies show up every sessions, you'll be a substandard fighter most of the time.

I agree that the DM would have to strike a careful balance with a PC foe hunter, as to how often the foe shows up, but as an NPC Foe Hunter intended for use only a few times, they would absolutely tear through the party, especially if it were all or mostly all the same race. It makes me feel dirty even thinking about using one...

I know. Against its chosen enemy the advantages are indecent.

Which reminds me that in several campaign world there are cabals of fanatical elves bent on exterminating humans encroaching on their lands. Hmm...

I think it'd actually make the work for the DM easier. I try to have different adventures that allow each PC to shine in his own way. Someone this specialized makes it really easy to have an adventure that they will shine it. Then there's the epic battle at the end when the Dwarf Goblin hunter faces off with the goblin Dwarhhunter. I actually did that with Orcs, except they were orc rangers species enemy human. They were really powerful agianst the party that was 100% human.
