Move Equiv Action + 5 ft step?

More semantics ;)
I didn't say that Movements Actions were (or were not) partial actions. I was simply stating that Movement Actions need to be renamed into something more "neutral". It could be named "Partial Action" (in no way refers to the 3.0 action, etc), or anything else.

Uh, yeah, but the same thing goes for most full round actions... and nobody seems to have a problem with "You can smack someone four times with your sword while taking full advantage of your Dodge bonuses, then take a 5' step."

If you could do that, you could never suffer an attack of opportunity again.

Reach monsters:
You would just move up to the right square, then 5' step in and fight. Things with reach 10' would never get to attack you with an At. Op.

Withdrawing from battle:
Also, you could 5' step away from someone, then move away. Again, no attack of opportunity is possible.

Maybe a very high level prestige class feature, or at the very least and epic feat with huge prerequisites.

Well, the problem comes from the slightly ambiguous wording in 3.0, where it said, that you can make a 5-ft. step, if you do not move, but it does not really say, whether a MEA is a move or not.

I mean, if you stand up, or pick somthing up, you certainly do move, but just not in the sense meant here, which is leave your position more than body movement.

So, someone could stand up and also take a 5' step? This came up in our last game and the DM said you couldn't do both.

Yes, movement is only from one square to another. Whatever you do while inside your square is not movement as it is meant here.

If you only have a partial action, can you move a 5 ft step, draw your weapon and attack?
Only if you have the Quick Draw feat; drawing a weapon is a MEA (or part of your movement if your base attack bonus is +1 or better), and you don't have a move and an attack action during a partial action. The 5 foot step does not count as movement for those martial artists with a BAB greater than 0.

No, since you can only draw the weapon as part of a move action (combined with a move, if you have BAB +1 or higher).
