Solved. This is complete spoiler territory, be forewarned.

Sorry, but that doesn't work as an explanation for the 6th replicant. Since there are no indications that YouknowWho had escaped. I never really liked that "addition" since the novel has nothing of the sort.

There are a few movies I watch over and over just to pick up on new details... I used to do that with the Star Wars trilogy until I purchased this Star Wars encyclopedia, and then there didn't seem much point. (And now that I've lost interest in Star Wars, it's a waste of 30 bucks, too...). I've done it with The Lord of the Rings, too.

I think the one that tops my list would be... Some Kind of Wonderful. Which is odd, because it's not a great movie -- definately a very good movie, but not great. It's my favorite movie. Mostly because I'm in love with the two female leads and want to be the male lead. :p Seriously, I've even spent time trying to figure out what events happened on what day of the week (I figure it took place over a period of about two weeks, starting on a Monday, I think), and gone out of my way to learn the lyrics to about half the soundtrack. Go figure.

Movie I haven't seen listed is Jacob's Ladder. I've watched that about a dozen times (man, I should buy a copy) and I think I've got it figured out. Really good mind trip.

Films with spectacular cinematography non-confrontational scores and foley tend to make me just stare and drool (in a dull, mindless way, not a lustful one). American Beauty, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and Amelie all fo this.

What does that solve?

I mean, yeah, sure, I think the whole Deckart's a replicant is an obvious read of the story. But it doesn't make sense if he's the sixth. It makes sense that he's a replicant, but not one that's just escaped from another planet. That's not supported by any of the evidence in the film.

I mean, if they could take this escaped replicant and make him so docile, why didn't they do that with the others?

And the page you quoted makes NO MENTION of the sixth replicant, so I'm curious as to what makes you think it solves that mystery.

So, nice try, but WRONG.

Then there is Nosferatu -- though none of my friends seem to like it, I need to watch it a couple times each year.

I watch that movie at least once a year. It really is wonderful.

John Crichton's list sums up my thoughts perfectly.

Get the Hell out of my head..
No, it's warm in here and the beer is GREAT! ;)

Oh, add Being John Malkovich and The Matrix (There Are No Sequels) to the list.
Yes! BJM makes the short list! The first 2/3 of The Matrix makes it as well. ;)

A movie that I really enjoy is Contact, with Jodie Foster. Not sure why.
Contact was amazing but for me was more of a one-shot blow you away type flick.

And on that my favourite recent move has to be MEMENTO.
Excellent film but doesn't make the short list. Why? After seeing it twice there is no reason to watch it again. Just my personal opinion. Think nothing else of it. :)

Can't believe no one mentioned The Usual Suspects. I also liked The Game.
Two more fantastic films. The Game didn't make the list because it's more of a one-trick pony. It's very rewatchable but it takes not watching for many years to do so. I think the same for The Usual Suspects but to a lesser degree (and now that I think of it many of these films could be Tier 2 Mindscrew).

There are many other really good movies that others listed. A few I didn't see and others were not mind-screwy enough to warrant seeing them again. Empire Strikes Back, however, does make the list. It fits the criteria and is simply a great film that happens to have a twist. And in that vein, Citizen Kane makes the list.

Adaptation. almost makes this list but a second viewing just shows that the movie is really good but more quirky than a mindscrew.

Se7en almost makes the list as well if the ending wasn't telegraphed as much as it was. Please don't think that I have a problem with this movie as it is great cinema and I loved it. However it does not have Mindscrew Tier One status.

Revised Short List (new additions have *):

Fight Club
Dark City
Donnie Darko
Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
Pulp Fiction
Empire Strikes Back*
Citizen Kane*
Being John Malkovich*

Pets & Sidekicks
