D&D 5E MPMB's D&D 5e Character Tools

MPMB, I ran into an obstacle. I'm looking at Ranger's Companion.

This is driving me up a wall. I can't figure out how to put in a note that you can order your companion to move without spending an action. I suppose that it should be assumed . . . or people should just read the bloody book, really. What about the availability of attacking and commanding at the same time once we have Extra Attack, though? Man . . . I hate to say it, but it looks like Beast Master has no way of fitting, anyway, so do we want to just say, "Screw it?" We can put all the info down, then people can delete the "Select stuff to add to the third page" lines on their sheets in order to see it all. Thoughts?

EDIT: Wait a sec . . . Look at this:
[3 favored enemies; use Choose Feature button]
That fits on the Favored Enemy line. If I did that to Favored Enemy and Natural Explorer, deleting the redundancies in the descriptions, we'd save two lines.

rillithis: Thank you so much! Hope you have a lot of fun with the sheet :)

Headbomb: I have taken another look at making the proficiency section tighter, and I've come up with a way to make more room for Class Features. A whole 5 new lines! (6 if you use the A4 version).

I've also made the encumbrance and coin section smaller, resulting in two new equipment lines (so four spaces in total). Next up is the addition of menus for magic items. I'm not sure (yet) if I want to add weight fields there as well.

Noah Ivaldi: That looks good, but how will people know it will be added to the third page? Will 5 new lines be enough for your addition for the beast master? Could there then also be enough space to add the favored terrain description on the second page? I was thinking I could write some code to have all selected favored something appear on the same line on the second page, but maybe there's not enough room for that.

Maybe we can re-visit the monk and use the five extra lines to make it look prettier

I'm running late now so I don't have time to post the changelog and stuff like that, so here is the work-in-progress version 7.37 on Dropbox

Look at all these lines! Yes! I can fix all the things!

Okay, honestly, I don't think that there's a whole lot that I can do to beautify the monk (Well, I mean, I have pics of really awesome monk chars, but . . .), but I can clarify all the things, now! Aye, aye, this will work nicely.

EDIT: Oh, right, your question: There isn't a snowball's chance in the Abyss that the Favored Terrain lines could go on the second page. I wish that there was, but, even with the extra space, there's just no way. I can't cut them down to any less than six lines (which makes sense; rangers get a lot of bonuses when they do get bonuses at all), so it's just impossible without sacrificing something else.

Another edit: When entering a sorcerer and selecting the Wild Magic option, it doesn't fill in the Wild Magic details. It converts your class name to "Wild Mage," but that isn't tied as a subclass name, so it just loads you up as a sorcerer that still needs to choose an origin, and typing in "Wild Mage" manually gives you an empty character for the same reason.

(...)Maybe you could add a link to the 5E errata page on your sheet like you did for the "Get the latest version of this sheet on enworld.org" on page 2. I think that "Click here for 5E errata" would fit under your link on the second page or under the character name on the third . . . Then again, why not just take out the extra character name box from the third page and put it there with room to spare? Just a thought.(...)
I forgot to reply to this. I don't think a character sheet is the place to put these kind of things.

>> Wild Mage
Thanks for letting me know about this, I totally forgot to correct that when I changed the Wild Magic Sorcerer from being "Sorcerer (Wild Magic)" to "Wild Mage".

I've updated the character generator/sheet to a newer version with lots of fixes and some new features, as well as some changes in layout.

Character Sheet/Generator v7.4 (19-8-2015) with the following changelog:
- Changed some of the class feature’s texts for grammar and clarification i.a., using the extra lines (with the help of Noah Ivaldi)
- Fixed the Monk Elemental Disciplines to show the correct amounts (thanks Noah Ivaldi for noticing)
- Changed the “Recovery” field of the Limited Features to look like it’s centered aligned (because that is impossible with drop-down lists)
- The bonus action “Off-hand Attack” is now added when you designate an attack as being ‘off-hand’ or ‘secundary’
- Fixed the HP tooltip to also include Dwarven Toughness for Hill Dwarves (thanks Astromath for noticing)
- Changed Defense Fighting Style so that it only adds AC to armor
- Fixed error where the print button forced duplex printed pages to flip over short edge instead of long edge
- Improved functionality of the Auto/Manual button
- Fixed some small issues with the reset button not removing everything properly
- Feats now add a (visible) reference to the feat’s source
- Increased the amount of space for the Class Features by reducing the amount of space for the proficiencies (as per the suggestion of Headbomb)
- Utilized the increased Class Features section to make the monk features adhere to the style of the rest
- Added two lines of Adventuring Gear by reducing the size of the encumbrance and coins sections (as per the suggestion of Headbomb)
- Fixed the “Wild Mage” that wasn’t populating the Class Feature section (thanks Noah Ivaldi for noticing)
- All conditions now add their restrictions to the part of the sheet and they auto-complete other condition fields
- Magic Items on both page 2 and 3 now have menus to move them (as per the suggestion of Headbomb)
- Fixed bug where the pop-up didn’t show when adding class features to the third page

You have a typo, "secundary," in that.

I figure that I should say this while it's on my mind:

Sorry to anyone that I may've confused with my previous statement about reading "spells" and "cantrips" separately in the rules. Really, you should for all of the instances of known/prepared spells and known cantrips, but not for any of the class features, as they will specify when they apply to spells of 1st-level or higher.

I know that we buried that conversation, but I don't want to be at fault for anyone's mistakes.

Took a look at the new sheet and the condensed prof section is much better. I'll point that 6/6 instead of 8/8 profs would give Noah his 6th line in class features... Not sure if it is still needed however.

Also something borked the AC section. I picked the defense fighting style, then selected my armor, and the AC stays at 10 no matter what. This doesn't seem to be order-dependent.

The bonus feat from being human (variant) doesn't get the PHB info added. I would just remove the "Bonus feat from being a human" from that feat. It's already in the racial traits.

Add "day" to Limited featured recovery buttons?
Add a blank field in the Recovery drop menu? Otherwise you're stuck with SR/LR/Day if you clicked something by mistake.

No need for "day" recoveries. The developers already clarified that "per day" should be read as "per long rest." Click on that errata link above to affirm, if you'd like.
I already fixed the "day" recovery that was left in one of the class features.

With that being said, I just proofread all the rest of them. I did the rogue through the wizard consecutively.
IneverstoprushingbecauseI'mQuickMan, hurry up!
Now, I am thankful that my bed is nearby. Pardon me while I die.

I decided to make A4 and Letter the same in the Prof section because that is easier with coding. So the A4 version does have the 6th line. But even that is not enough for the class changes he wanted ;)

I screwed something up when I added the condition-function. I'll fix it in the next version :)

Whenever there already is text in the field that should get the source reference, the code decides against overwriting it. So this is not just true for the human bonus feat and is intentional.

They are already there, but in your next post you recommend removing them so I guess you know they are there already...

Is removing the text too hard to do? You are not stuck with anything, you can just go in the field and edit the text. I guess I put in empty lines for most of the drop-downs and that might be the confusion. Those empty lines are there because the drop-down does either not allow entry of your own text, or a JavaScript function requires it.

Where did you find that the developers clarified that "Arcane Recovery" should be "per long rest" instead of "per day"? It is not in the errata you linked to earlier and I haven't found anything on this subject using Google.

Good question! Someone cited Mike Mearls on it, but I can't find where, any more. It's probably somewhere on Twitter . . . They seriously need to apply more effort to publishing all their errata where people actually friggin' read it . . . -sigh-
It's implied in the Unearthed Arcana: Eberron document, but still not absolutely stated. It's also a safe assumption, since it's clear that they started writing things as once/day, then went back and meant to change it all to once/LR, but missed some things, as is the case for the racial spells. If it makes you feel better, though, maybe someone knows where to ask for an official statement.
