No, it's mediocre and unfunny because it is false. 3.X had no level cap. The 3.0 core books did, but that was quickly abolished with the Epic Level Handbook. The 3.5 core books incorporated Epic as well, having no level cap. The 4th Edition core books will have a level cap of 30. I predict that it will not take until 5E until that level cap is abolished.

As if a comic strip was meant to be a precise review of a rpg's gaming mechanics. The point of this comic strip, is that 4e is before all about getting "more". More powers, more levels, more AC, more hp, MORE! (whether monsters also get more in the process to remain balanced is not the point). In any case this has been the trend since the first inception of D&D 30 years ago. So 4e only follows the logical trend of getting more of everything (including books releases). I guess WotC's marketing research has also shown them that customers want more (otherwise this wouldn't have been the trend for all those years). The only things is, that (as it seems reading this thread), customers don't want to be reminded that it is why they are so enthusiast at the new edition. Like it was the dark side one doesn't want to be reminded of...

I don't mind if it's not a precise review (not that any review could be written at this point). But if you want to make fun of something factual, you get better by using something factual. Why not make fun of gnomes or bards popping out of existance, which is slightly inaccurate, but better material for humor? Why not make fun of fighter "spells", which is slightly inaccurate as well, but can be good material as well? Why not make fun of the DI, and Wizards' site not being able to handle the traffic, which is entirely factual? That a lot better in my opinion that going "It's funny because it's true, except it isn't true."

The only things is, that (as it seems reading this thread), customers don't want to be reminded that it is why they are so enthusiast at the new edition. Like it was the dark side one doesn't want to be reminded of...

Oh, how so? If anything, this thread shows that customers are well aware of this. At least better aware than the cartoonist in question.

Hey! If we're getting MORE levels than ever, how come my BECM D&D went up to level 36, and then beyond that to Immortal level?

And 4e is only going to 30 levels. I don't call that giving me more, it's just barely catching up!

Which is why the strip isn't funny, because it showcases a lack of knowledge both of the current proposed changes as well as the history of the game itself. When trying to spin that into a joke it falls flat with the part of the audience that has a better grip of the facts pertaining to levels in D&D.

Undoubtedly, lots of people think its funny even if they have a grasp of the rules and history of D&D, but alas, the joke is lost on me.

In the FFN strip they comment on how they just purchased 3.5. How long as 3.5 been out and they JUST purchased their books now??? The comic didn't make any sense.

That's why it wasn't funny to me. At least use something that is true and try to make it funny.
