One of my friends states that because the DMG, under the PrC section, doesn't specifically state that Prestige Classes are free from the multi-classing penalties that they are now subject to it.

Has this been covered before?

Yes. Assume it's an error.

SKR, Andy Collins, and a few other WotC (and ex-WotC peeps) have said that the paragraph stating prestige classes incur NO multi-class penalties was accidently cut during editing.

Like Hong said, its an error. Prestige classes do not give the multi-classing penalty to XP.

And DM that tried to pull a fast one like THAT, wold deserve a vigorous slapping ... with spiked adamantine gauntlets!

Considering the advantages these classes sometimes tend to give, it maybe wouldn`t be that bad... :)
(Oh, full spellcasting progression plus special abilities? Where can I sign in?)
