Multiclassing tidbit.

Anybody notice these bits?

Wednesday night in my D&D game I got to flex my wizard's multiclass fighter muscle. I saved our cleric, Divin, from having his soul sucked out by an Oni thanks to my sweet fighter multiclass feat (out of the Martial Power Sourcebook), and on the next round I got to use my fighter encounter power (also from MP) to give all my comrades the edge we needed to take him down.

So it looks like the multiclassing feats we've seen won't be the only ones possible, even when referring to the classes from the PHB I. Although I notice in particular that both the fighter powers he cites seem more like leader abilities than defender ones. Role drift occuring already?

I like this, since if it is how I think it is, it will mean you can be even more specific with your multiclassing. So say you want to multiclass with a Ranger, but don't want Hunter's Quarry, you instead take the one for Prime Shot or Fighting Style, etc.

I am so glad they have gone this route of being able to pick specific things from your secondary-class rather then getting swamped by stuff you don't want.

I'll just point out that it doesn't actually say what he did in either instance. "Save from Oni" doesn't seem like a Leader-specific ability. He could have slapped the Oni in the face, disabling its "Eat Cleric's Soul" power, which seems Defendery to me.

Also "give all my comrades the edge" could be anything. Sure, a Leadery +4 bonus to everyone's attack rolls could be "give all my comrades the edge", but so could a Defendery "keep him adjacent to me so everyone can get into position for optimal face-pwnage".

I think he has mentioned it--martial powers as source of fightery stuff for his wizard--a few times. It should also have multiclassing options for the other martial classes.

And we may very well see more in the PHB itself. All the excerpts have been pretty partial.

Blech. How hard is it to have one Feat that allows you to "Choose one of these three options"?

I really hope not. Clear, strong Roles is one of my favorite things about 4E.

1) It could be three feats to allow you to take each, so eventually you could have all if you give up other stuff in exchange.

2) I agree with terradave, I don't think it's drift, but a general description of what he did.

I think the description of "What he did" isn't indicative of any sort of specific power, he's just saying "Yeah I saved our dudes and helped win the encounter!"

I think there is a confusion between the feat that lets you do Fighter Multiclassing (which we've seen) and the Fighter Class specific that feat gives you access to, perhaps?
Agreed. There is nothing new to multiclassing here that I can see, just a wizard that has access to a fighter feat and power that are in a future book.
