Multiple 5ft steps?

I couldn't find anything specifically allowing or disallowing multiple 5ft steps in a quick scan of the SRD, but I am inclined to believe that it isn't allowed. One of the players in my group swears that you always get a 5ft step when casting a touch spell, whether or not you have already made on that round. Is he correct?

Also, if I have the Pressing Attack feat from FFG's Path of the Sword, can I use the 5ft step from Pressing Attack in addition to my normal 5ft step? I would think I can, based on what the feat does, but it never hurts to check.

Your player is doubly wrong.
- A touch spell gives no free step or movement of any kind.
- Even haste is ruled to not allow more than a single 5' step in any round.

Pressing attack lets you move with someone if they make a 5' step and you are adjacent. Its not done on your action therefore it isn't considered part of your move but you can only use it once per round as stated in the feat description.

There's no circumstance by the rules that allows you more than one 5' step in the round.

I have a custom feat that allows you to trade your AoO for an extra 5' step in the round as long as no enemy threatens you other than the one triggering the AoO (Sidestep), but that's a house rule.

You only get one 5' step per round, ever.

A "5' step" is special movement that you can take when you have taken no other movement during the round. If you move 5' once, do something else, and then move another 5'-- for instance, if you're hasted-- then those are Move actions during which you happened to travel only 5'.

Perfect :)

It is actually one of the simplest rule in PHB. Simply think of everything you're doing in your turn: if you are not taking a move at all with your actions (standard, mea...), you are granted this little-move ONCE anytime during your turn.

Another thing is that with a normal Move action, you can decide to move only 5ft (for example not to provoke AoO) instead of your full speed.

There are only two ways I know of to get more than one 5' step in a round. The first is with Pressing Attack. The second is with a feat from Rokugan that you can take more than once that allows you to take multiple 5' steps inbetween cleave attempts (in effect a superior version of supreme cleave).
