"I don't do it. And if I do do it -- which I don't -- I didn't do it here -- though I would have done it here if I did do it."
There is a pause as Michael tries to work out what exactly he just said.
Finally he turns back to Ironwolf.
"So how did you get healed?"

"Well, I'm certainly still hurt, but I'm feeling a lot more mobile now. Seems that a member of the audience was impressed with our performance and sent some healing as a gift. If you have any curative magic available, Michael, I would certainly apreciate your efforts. Perhaps we can speak about that once we have some privacy."

ooc: I believe Ironwolf is now at 6 of 16 hp, right KB?

Michael converts his last guidance spell into healing energy and cures Ironwolf for one point of damage.
Then he looks embarrassed.
"That's kinda it, Ironwolf. I didn't use spells as effectively as I maybe should have."
He examines Ironwolf and Vanitri ruefully.
"And I maybe should have been more aggressive..."
(OOC: Sorry, all. I really thought the sneak attacks would just roll the little halfling buggers up when they connected. I'll try something a little different the next time.)

"You were fine Michael, I'd hate to have though of what happened if you'd done something differently"

OOC: You're fine, it worked well, and the fact that they hit me all the time ment that they were rolling well most likely. You were fine, and it played well to the crowd. Bless may be worth holding as a potential cure next time, but the shield of faith and your enlarge were lifesavers.

(some follow-up) When Vanitri goes back to the betting office and presents his slips, the intricracies of the arena betting system reveal themselves. On his own match, he receives a total of 700 gp - his initial investment plus 400 profit (OOC: I wasn't explaining myself very well on the odds). Rosalynn and Ironwolf's victory, however, only gets him back his orriginal 300 gp and no profit. Apparently when placing a bet on doubles matches, you are betting that both will "survive" the match, as well as a victory. So both up at the end you win money, both down you lose money but if it is a "split victory" you break even. well, close to even, the betting office takes a 5% surcharge out of all its payouts.

Vanitri's total profit for the day = 350 gp.

Back in the barracks, there is another suprise - A 'housekeeping' slave employed in the gladiator quarters presents each of you with some items that have been left for you from "admirers." For the three men, its mostly some bottles of cheap wine and flowers, and Micheal has recieved a "favor" of a red lock of hair tied with a patterned green ribbon, but Rosalynn is supprised to find herself presented with a new blouse and several large silk scarves in complementing colors. (an Entertainer's Outfit)

Petra comes by the barracks later, and after doing last minute prep with some other gladiators who have matches in the evening, comes over to your group. "Good job, all of you. I'd advise you to purchase some healing, there's a temple to Grendath over on the far side of the main arena. Usually I discourage gladiators from doing that, we're glad to give you time off to rest up naturally, but I want you to make your beast match tommorrow. I haven't had time to try to figure out exactly what you'll be facing, its officially a suprise each day, but the keepers at the pens are usually pretty talkative."

Rosalynn smiles upon finding the blouse and decides to wear it for the next match with a pair of simple leather pants that she has as a spare outfit. She rips off the other sleeve of her dress to make it match...she'll deal with that later, and adds a green scarf to her hair for the moment.

She notes Micheal's token and narrows her eyes. what's that all about? She wonders.

She listens to Petra and thinks about the next match. Perhaps she could sing her courage song again...She sits to think about it and decides to call Vanitri over to ask him about it.

"Big brother? Can you come over here a minute?

It looks like Vanitri has learned a valuable lesson of how the bets work. He'll remember this for next time. "Aye, healing would probably be good. Looks like I did fairly well in my take as well."

Vanitri walks over to Ros "What's up lil'sis?"

Rosalynn gives him a thoughful look. "I've been thinking about the next battle. Perhaps we should start out togeather..."

(OOC: I'm planning ahead a little...wanting us all to start togeather so you'll all be in earshot of her Inspire Courage song....couldn't hurt.)
