Murder Mystery Party

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I were thinking about throwing a murder mystery dinner for a bunch of friends in the near future (some who play RPGs, and other who don't but like the idea of role playing). I figured this would be a fun, light-hearted way to get people to act in-character without anyone being afraid of leaving their comfort zone.

My question is: are there any specific sets or companies that anyone here has bought from that they recommend? There are a bunch of them out on the internet, but I can't tell if one is better/different than the other. I know it's typically the characters who make the game, but i want to make sure a good story comes along with it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've played several out of the (now out of print, I believe) Decipher line, which used to be sold in that old WotC retail stores, and which actually bear the "How to Host a Murder" title. So far, none of them have disappointed, and frankly, they're all kinda similar. The 70s disco one was probably my favorite, but that was as much because of the people we had doing it, hamming it up with ridiculous New York accents and wearing the most ridiculous 70s clothes we could find.
