Mushroom Hunting Season is drawing nigh!

Awww :D

Well sir ... you are not the first, but do belong to a very small and highly selective club.

If I remember rightly you are in Texas too (college doing okay btw?) and therefore probably don't have many opportunities to go a 'huntin.... True?

Yep, I am am in Texas, I do see a lot of mushrooms around my house when it gets wet down here(often). But I think they are all poisonous.

College is doing fine for me, I am actually at home right now(for the first time since I left) for a wedding. I have not been around much because I could not get my password sent to my email account so I could log on on my laptop, and I do not remember it. :(

Well, had some neighbors (Russians) visit me last Sunday and they brought a HUGE chicken o'the woods! Cooked it up in olive oil with fresh pressed galric, salt and pepper ... WOW.

Had enough for four meals actually. :) Last part of it devoured this morning.

You folks don't know what you're missing!

One the subject of Morels... I see 1 ounce packages of dried Morels in the upscale grocery store. Walked by them all the time before deciding that I had to go get some. I grab a package and find that they're not marked. Look around a bit and finally find the price sticker.

$16.95

For one freaking OUNCE of dried Morels.

Um....no. At that price, I'll wait until next spring and make the effort to go out and find some, thank you.

Yep... And then I think back on the pounds upon pounds of morel mushrooms my dad and I used to pick for free out in the wodds nehind our house.

Now I wish I lived somewhere more condusive to mushroom hunting. They don't really thrive in the Chicago suburbs.

My neighbor goes mushroom hunting every year, I told him I want him to take me next time he goes. :) I love mushrooms except for shitake mushrooms- I think they are gross. I always have to have oriental restaraunts leave them out.

I actualy kinda like shitakes. Ah well. What about the matsutake?

Hmm ... well, if I had to choose I would say that the "amanita calyptrata" is probably the tastiest mushroom I have ever had. They are rarer than hen's teeth around here, but they pop up every now and again.

By all means though, Aurora, head out with him. But be aware that some mycophiles are a little ... different when they get out in the "field". Nothing bad ... just warning you so you are not surprised or scandalized! :D
