Musings: Early 2006 releases from Wizards

That one's easy: it's a balance problem.
There's a soulknife thread I started a few days ago with a somewhat uneasy consensus that disagrees with you. Mainly because of...

Unfortunately, the bonus enhancements aren't that great.
But also because the soulknife seems to be underwhelming at what appears to be it's primary purpose--i.e., psychic front-line combatant.

The effect of the Kalashtar racial substitution level that allows the "holy" enhancement to be used on your mindblade (+2d6 damage vs. evil and counts as good-aligned damage) makes the Soulknife an entirely different proposition and much more effective in battle.
That entirely depends on the campaign and the types of foes that the DM tends to put you up against. And, not every soulknife is a kalashtar.

Putting them in the core books would help, but that would enlist too much whining from the “I don’t want anything I don’t like” contingent to ever happen.

I agree. I don't really care if psionics end up in the Core Rules, just expand up psionics like everything else. Psionics players are out there, give them love!!! Or something like that... :\

*ahem* Expanded Psionics Handbook. :)

But yeah, I agree. I've been a bit ambivalent about psionics since the 3e release, but for whatever reason (probably thanks to the whole really cool Dreaming Dark idea in Eberron) I'm starting to really like them. My next character has a good chance of being psionic.

I agree; the Dreaming Dark has shifted my attitude towards psionics from hostile to friendly.

Something to ponder

Could Races of the Dragon NOT be a Races book, but instead an Eberron Supplement?

Currently, the 7 core races in ECS are the only Dragonmarked. There is LOTS still to talk about these races. Maybe it deals more with the prophecy and things Draconic in Eberron?

Just an alternative take... though I'd love a draconic-flavored low ECL PC race...

That is my second thought on what Races of the Dragon would be. I'm not quite as interested in Dragonmarked Houses since I don't run Eberron (and don't plunder dragonmarks for my homebrew), so I'm hoping is a book on dracomic races.

Hm, well, I'll buy up almost anything Eberron related. ;)

Complete Psionic makes me happy. I'm not the biggest psionics fan, but anything that helps get it more respect is good in my opinion.

I'm disappointed that there's no Monster-centric book announced for early 2006. :(

Everything else, well, I'll just wait and see...

I'm a little surprised by the lack of another monster book from WotC as well. Monster books are typically the best selling book behind the PHB afterall.

Good point, Pants.

There's still time. These mostly look like Q1/early Q2 releases.

Eh, who needs monsters? There's a solid chance there will be TWO psionics purchases!

Monsters are done to DEATH. Leave them to the Tome of Horrors crew, who does 'em right and open content to boot.

I'm sure we'll see a monster release before the end of the year, but CRIMINEY, we've got enough.

*likes to have plenty of monsters to toss out anyway.*

But like Psion/Alan said, this is just a prelimary list and probably will change depending on various factors.
