Mutants and Masterminds Second Edition

M&M 2E

Boy, am I glad I'm lazy! :)

I was just thinking about buying one of the revised print copies next month.

The good: It's going to use 90% of the same basic rules (or seems to, from the FAQ).

The Bad: It's coming out in September of 2005, which means It's coming out TOO LATE to be of use in a North Carolina Gameday that same month.

The Ugly: None I can see yet. :)

Anyone else planning to buy it? Are you sticking with your M&M 1? Have you ever TRIED the first M&M?

Have you ever TRIED the first M&M?

Unfortunately, no, but I've read it cover to cover, made some heroes (and villains), and even started working on a campaign. It's the one game that I haven't tried that I'm jonesing to play.

If any game does need a 2nd edition, it's MnM. Not because it's bad but because so many things were experimental. A lot of the powers need work I'm sure.

The only negative that I can see is that MnM hasn't been out for that long, relatively speaking. It's pretty soon for a 2nd edition. Overall though I don't think the decision will hurt GR.

Sounds cool to me. While I've been quite happy with the first edition, I can see how adding a second edition to clarify or fix some of the big problem areas (offhand, I'd say that explaining character creation to help players avoid under-powered characters, clarifying power-builds to correct common misperceptions and make linked effects clear for everyone, addressing the question of skills and ratios, and altering a few powers that are too front-loaded would be worth the cost of admission for me).

Mind you, those aren't all things that bug me -- those are things that seem to be popular in the forums as bugging people.

Might convince my players to buy that edition, too. That wouldn't hurt. :)

I might buy it, along with Mastermind's Manual (for GMs).

I wonder if it is too late to offer feedback.

If you mean for M&M 2e -- yeah, it's pretty much way too late.

If you mean for the Mastermind's Manual, then you probably have time to let Steve know what you're thinking.

I would certainly hope it wouldn't considering it didn't hurt White Wolf to release a second edition of all their games less than a year after the initial release. MnM needs as much clean up as those games needed....

I doubt it... I was about to replace the rule book anyhow. Its seen the heaviest use of all my 3rd edition/d20 books. :)

Many, many, many, hours I've spent working with the system and I very much love it and wish that alot of it would be incorporated into D&D. (Mostly the classless system.)
