My 3rd-level warmage needs some learnin'. Care to help?

Hi, all.

Tazham, a young firerunner (read: barbarian/warmage) needs a new 0th or 1st level evocation spell gleaned through 3rd-level "advanced learning". A wizardy one that's not already on the warmage spell list, that is.

I can't find anything in the official sources I own, other than Tenser's floating disk, Mordenkainen's buzzing bee (Mini's HB), and darklight (BoVD). None of those appeal.

Does anyone know of spells in a Dragon, or far-flung (official) source, that Taz might have picked up on?? And have any other warmages out there been in a similar position at 3rd level?

I appreciate any help you fine folk can muster. :)

What does advanced learning do? I assume it allows you to learn a spell that is not on your spell list. You should probably take this feat later as it would allow for much more flexibility. Maybe taking a feat that allows you to cast more spells per day or know more spells.

I will pour through my books tommorrow and try to help you out.

Stone Angel, Advanced Learning is a class ability (not a feat) for warmages that lets you add an evocation wizard spell that's not on the warmage's spell list of a level you can cast.

Chronosome, is Monte Cook's Book of Eldritch Might official enough? There's two 1st level evocations in there that are pretty nice; Harrassing Weapon, which creates a longsword of force that makes AoO's against an enemy, and Unhand, which is a med. range disarming attack using force.

WotC selections seem to be kind of scarce, but I'll keep looking.

Okay, I looked through all 4 Complete books, the two Races books and the Book of Exalted Deeds, and all I could find was the 1st level spell Lantern Light from Exalted Deeds. I skipped the FR and Eberron books.

Slim pickin's.

Well, for far-flung resources, I can offer the Planar Handbook's Light of Lunia (personal light spell you can discharge as 2 bolts).

Dragon 323 has some very nice 2nd level Evocation [Force] Spells for later levels.

Pretty slim indeed. That's unfortunate. It seems like such a good ability.

From this website full of cool spells, I propose Black Flames (create a firecamp that emit no light, and thus will not warn others of your presence).

From the Magic of Faerûn, the cantrip known as Horizikaul's cough inflicts one point of sonic damage and deafens the target for one round. First level spells include forcewave (1d4+1 damage plus bull rush) and Shelgarn's persistent blade which is made of force, attacks, and automatically flanks people.

He has little choice - it's not a feat. :) It's a class ability Warmages get at certain levels. It allows you to pick any one Evocation wizard spell and add it to your list of spells known.

Ron, do any of these help?

Planar Handbook
Light of Lunia (Wiz1): You radiate silvery light, which you can expend as 2 bolts that deal 1d6 damage. (Ranged touch attack.)

Magic of Faerun
Electric Jolt (Wiz0): Ranged touch attack deals 1d3 electricity damage.
Forcewave (Wiz1): Deals 1d4+1 damage plus bull rush.
Horizikaul's Boom (Wiz1): Target takes 1d4/two levels sonic damage plus deafness.
Ice Dagger (Wiz1): Splash weapon deals target 1d4 cold damage per level, plus area damage.
Shelgarn's Persistent Blade (Wiz1): Blade of force attacks target, automatically flanks.
Snilloc's Snowball (Wiz1): Touch attack (melee or ranged) deals 1d6 cold damage +1/level.
