I spent most of the playtest running one and two-session games where every character had to be a viable member of a thieves guild. There are so many ways to do it in 5e - rogue, obviously. Bard with the right skills picked. Any Half-Elf or Human with the right skill choices. Anyone with the charlatan, criminal or urchin background (and a few others if twisted a bit). Cleric of Trickery, Wizard of the Illusion school, half the Warlock builds, Monk of shadow...
