My DnD CD

Call me old-fashioned, but I have to include Scarborough Fair form Simon and Garfunkle.

Hey, when you get this compiled together, can you mail me a copy?

Just about anything by Hawkwind, lots of fantasy / Elric inspired stuff, hardly surprising as I've heard Moorcock actually cowrote some of their songs (although I wouldn't swear to the veracity of that statement).

Depending on your tastes, there are a few Suzanne Vega songs that might be of interest. Calypso and The Queen and the Soldier come to mind.

While at it, is it true that Spock himself (Leonard Nimoy) performs one of the songs on the LotR soundtrack?

No. If you can't get the soundtrack in Sweden, email me and I'll send you one.

I second the Suzanne Vega songs. "The Queen and the Soldier" is awesome. "Calypso" is my favorite SV song (and the only great song on her second album); I'd never thought of it as related to D&D, but that works for me.

Don't forget the Ravenloft fans: "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult and "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus. If you can't find the Bauhaus song, you could always just lift the audio track off the beginning of 'The Hunger' (probably out on DVD by now).

And for a few instrumental favorites: "Ride of the Valkyries" by Richard Wagner (from 'Die Walküre' - part of The Ring Cycle) and "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Grieg's music for Ibsen's play 'Peer Gynt.' Holst's "Mars: Bringer of War" from 'The Planets' is also nice. If you can stand Tchaikovsky, his "1812 Overture" is neat, especially listening to the theme overpower "The Marsaille" (French national anthem), even though it is a bit long.

As regards the original post, the instrumentals obviously don't 'mention' fantasy/D&D standards, but I like 'em anyway. :)

Calypso mostly works if you know the Oddesy, and realize that she is a witch and he (the man of the song) is an adventurer / king returning home.

More Type O Negative:

Suspended In Dusk
Wolf Moon
Haunted

Mercyful Fate:
Return Of the Vampire (along with most of their other songs)

For pure silliness:
Hobbit On The Rocks by Toad The Wet Sprocket
