My sister once told me she didn't think I could do even 5 burpees, so I dropped and did 10 in the middle of the winery tasting room. Got some looks!

One technique I picked up ages ago is eating a big meal before working out. I know it can be bad but I started doing it because I used to compete and it was always so difficult to balance food intake with having a settled stomach (so sometimes you would go to a match too hungry and suffer for it). So I just forced myself to eat and I found my stomach became more disciplined (and my stomach is pretty sensitive to boot)

Well if you don’t eat you have no energy to exercise. I leaned that the hard way!

That is true. I always had a weak stomach so I would eat two hours of more before exercise but for me that wasn’t enough (especially since I am a ‘hard gainer’ so eating right before proved helpful)

I approach it like a hobbit and eat a small breakfast mainly consisting of carbs before going to the gym to give me energy to get through the workout and then have second breakfast more focused on protein when I get home from the gym. It’s worked for me pretty well.

That seems like a very sensible approach to me. Another that can be very successful I think is eating a number of small meals a day (rather than two or three big ones). My approach has been more to train my stomach (I actually find it helpful because I have stomach issues in general). So I eat a very large high protein and high carb meal before train (like five to ten minutes before). I would go to the gym, even box but I never really had any problems with nausea or other gastro difficulties once I got used to it. I would assume the small carb meal and second higher protein breakfast you are doing would be the better approach in terms of fitness (my goal was really to train my stomach so it was never a problem while working out and to increase muscle mass----the large meal going in really made a different there. Usually I would end it with a protein shook within an hour after the work out
