D&D 5E My favorite race- what I play, what I want to see

My favorite race to play as a character is...

  • Yoo-man. If it was good enough for Gygax, it's good enough for me.

    Votes: 44 29.9%
  • Dwarf. If it's not a Scottish accent, it's cra... not good.

    Votes: 17 11.6%
  • Elf (not drow). Legolas is dreamy.

    Votes: 8 5.4%
  • Gnome. Not just for gardens anymore.

    Votes: 12 8.2%
  • Half-elf, all awesome.

    Votes: 22 15.0%
  • Half-orc. Let's not talk about the backstory.

    Votes: 4 2.7%
  • Halfling. Well, I don't want no short people round here.

    Votes: 13 8.8%
  • Drizzt Do'Urden.

    Votes: 1 0.7%
  • Tiefling. Demons are cool.

    Votes: 8 5.4%
  • Dragonborn. I could really use something for my breath.

    Votes: 5 3.4%
  • Supplemental- I'm all about aasimar/minotaur/warforged/genasi/whatev.

    Votes: 10 6.8%
  • (OTHER) I either homebrew my races or disapprove of the poll but enjoy clicking things.

I voted but I think from my forum name most people can guess what my answer was without me declaring it.

But, halfling..or hobbit if you prefer.

Dwarves!

Seriously, how could you not like the dwarves? They're crass, they hate elves, they have excessive facial hair and a short-man's complex. That about sums up why I play them...roleplaying gold. You could go so many directions with them that you'd never have to repeat!

In my homebrew campaign the dwarves are very different then in the "standard" version. They're still good (mostly) but they lean more toward the chaotic side than lawful. If I had to come up with a comparable race in the mainstream it would be the dinosaur-riding halfling barbarians from Eberron (it was Eberron, right?)

I'm playing a human currently because otherwise my party would be ALL rare races except the dwarf (but he was raised by humans in a monastery not a normal dwarf). This is okay coz humans are my favorite race, and I like to rep team human. I don't like non human parties. We don't even do variant human in my party and I'm still probably going to make humans forever, unless at LEAST two other people make humans so I can know for sure even if one dies we still won't be all non human races.

My next favorite race is probably half ogres and half Giants. Idk why and I know that's not in the PHB or anywhere in 5e. Half orcs are also up there. I like huge tieflings with giant horns too. I think it's from liking Akira toriyama maybe idk. That kind of style.

I don't think I'll ever make a gnome or halfling or dwarf probably. Probably won't make a dragonborn either.

Wow, color me utterly shocked, a poll about races and human wins by a landslide. Particularly shocking given the *total* lack of gritty/old-school sentiment around here. </sarcasm>

Sarcasm aside, I voted for Dragonborn. Still saddens me greatly how much antipathy it receives.

I voted for Dragonborn too! That said, I really like Warforged as well, and I also liked being able to play a Thri-Kreen in 4e.

Peralay and Gilthanus are not amused.

Dwarves for me, though I do miss them actually being a small race like they where back in 1e and 2e. Best Dwarves of course are from the Dragonlance setting, Hylar, Daewar, Neidar, Theiwar, Daergar, Klar and the Aghar. Yes even the Aghar (Gully Dwarves).

In 5E my favorite is the half-elf but that is admittedly because they are now one of the most powerful races. Traditionally my favorites have been: human, elf, dwarf.
