My first attempt at creating a class - my varient Ranger.

I re-created the Ranger based on several standpoints. I first judged what was wrong or missing from the class from my own perspectives and from reading these forums on other's opinions.
I also did not drastically rewrite the class. I didn't want to. I wanted to keep it simple, like it should be (like the other Core classes).

I made him MUCH more flexible, in that, he is no-longer pigeon holed into being a two weapon fighter. He now has a choice between three different fighting 'schools'.

In addition, I made him much more (in my opinion) formidable when it comes to several key factors that many others and I agree Rangers alone should excel at. I hope you'll agree with me.

I also attempted to make him less "top-heavy", although it could still be argued as such. Instead of totally redoing him, I made him less attractive as a 'multiclass-out-of' kind of class.

Please, please let me know what you think. I crave feedback, and my appetite is insatiable!

Why not throw a 7th level one of these together for next Saturday and we'll take him for a test drive in that second slot game? :) (If so, send me a copy when you have him ready, please.)

Woah, will do! Looks like I'm scrapping my Pally.

Thanks for the oppurtinity Mark!

It'll be a treat for all of us, I believe. Given the nature of the adventure, it should be a perfect chance to try it out. Besides, Paladins are the D&D equivalent of "tightie-whities." Maybe they're OK for campaign play, but in a one-shot, dive-in-and-spread-your-wings situation, it's fun to wear something more interesting. :D

I assume that the skill points and selection remain unchanged?! I do not see the skill aspect of it anywhere on your document. Same with spells...same as PHB? I therefore have to assume that you only listed what's changed and neglected to mention what's the same. Like all alt.ranger out there, I think it's a good effort though I think you are shafting the ranger by giving him a d8 hit die (a tradeoff I know, but for price of 4 feats I think it's pretty steep).

Yeah, what's not listed has not changed.

And I debated with myself forever whether or not they get d8 or d10. I'm still undecided myself! I also wasen't sure if a d8 was a fair trade-off. I'll have to give it some more thought!

Damn Ruvion! That's another thing I've considered. I never understood why they had such a poor reflex save...seems out of context with the vision of the class.

Great minds think alike. :)
