My first experience of anti-female gamers!

My wife drinks like a fish, swears like a sailor and makes better Transformer gun noises than you do. She is easily the crassest, most outrageous and wildest person I know. And I would say the top ten on that list includes AT LEAST five women.

Does she talk about women (at work) she'd like to screw?

Because we've been known to spend a good hour on that subject alone. :D

Got me, too.

Heh. I DM a group made up of three couples (including my wife and me). I've got three daughters. I'm pretty sure I'm never going to see a male-dominated group again in my life.

The D&D group I had two groups ago was all guy, and we had a sort of "by-laws" that we abided by. Everyone had to agree on new members, and there was an obligatory watching of hardcore porn on the satellite dish for 30 minutes after we were done gaming.

So, that second rule pretty much meant we didn't desire any women in our group. Although a girl did end up playing a few games with us. She was an old friend of two of the guys, but she didn't last terribly long. She was just flaky like that, though.

And I could see an all-girl group being crass and vulgar like that. Girls in large groups can be just as bad as guys in large groups.

Considering that humans are a notoriously immoderate and uncivilized lot...

Compared to what?

And, for the record, I've known plenty of women who fall into the "enjoyably crass and lewd" category. I'm married to one of them (though she puts on a good front much of the time). But many guys won't "cut loose", in all the hilarious and revolting connotations of the phrase, as easily around women as they would other men. Maybe it shouldn't be that way, maybe in some groups it isn't. In some it is.

Women have been a moderating and civilizing influence on men since the dawn of the species.
Wow. The women I know hold onto grudges far longer than men tend to, and while a man might express his anger towards another with a single outburst, verbally or physically, women I know seem willing to spend years destroying their enemies.

Women being the gentler sex is a fantastic PR campaign on their part. They live longer, can tolerate more intense physical and emotional stress (something like six times as many men as women had emotional breakdowns during the bombing of London, for instance) and, on top of that, they swear eternal vengeance on their enemies.

If my wife is reading this, please don't hurt me.

Well, after 23 years of gaming, I finally encountered misogyny from players. One of the groups that I DM has 4 male and 2 female gamers. The 2 female gamers could not make last week, so we gamed without them. Then this week, I used a DM trick to get their characters with the rest of the party, and then the 4 male gamers said "OK, now we attack them!"

They had previously agreed to kill the female gamers' characters! I was able to talk them out of it, pointing out that one of the male gamers' characters was a paladin, and so not only would not do this, but would fight to stop it. That stopped them, but still, there was some lingering bad stuff, like a male gamer not wishing to heal a female gamer's character.

Mind you, they are all 9 years old, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I'd say they were in the middle of that "GIRLS ARE ICKY!! THEY HAVE COOTIES!!" stage of their lives..... funny thing... boys..... They go from "EWWwwww!" to "WOAH, MAMA!" [/Johnny Bravo] They'll grow out of it.

Yea, you got me.

Although, in our group, we had one female gamer (the wife of one of the players), and there was a game where she was sick and stayed home. And I noticed a difference in how all the guys were without her there. Someone even commented on it. They were more crass, and vulgar, and we cussed a lot more. I thought it was interesting.

From a female POV, guys ARE vulgar!!! :p Granted I can be JUST as crass, vulgar, and cuss as bad as they. Although the scratching bit is totally O-U-T! ;) Guys will be guys..... :\

Not surprising though (IMHO). Women have been a moderating and civilizing influence on men since the dawn of the species.

SOMEBODY has to keep you guys in line....! ;)

It's a full-time job, but we've gotta do it...... :p
