AAAUUUGGGHHH!!!!!! On behalf of every animal care professional on the planet Please Ignore Above Advice!!!!!

*cough cough*

Or to put it another way, that may turn out to be a very bad idea. While it works for a small grop of pet owners, obtaining a new animal too soon after the death of a beloved friend can be a disaster for the owner and new animal. Give it time.

Sorry to hear about that, Liquide. Follow your vets advice and put the cat to sleep. No sense keeping an animal in pain.

Then go adopt a small kitten from a shelter to take his place.

Even if you might mean well with your comment and I take it as such, this would normally offend me and I'll try and explain why.

My Linus is not just a cat not a pet, he is my compatriot and belowed friend that has been at my side and we have helped eachother out for his whole life in both ups and downs.

Going and adopting a kitten will be the same thing as getting a replacement brother when/if my own brother would die.

It does not compute and feels utterly wrong in all senses of the word.

I still consider that you meant well and thank you for the words though.

I did mean well, and I suppose it depends on the type of person you are. My aunt had a cat for about 14 years that just died. She is already talking about getting another one. I can see your point, too. Perhaps after the sting wears off you'll be ready for another cat.

Sorry if I offended you.

Condolences

Im sorry to hear that you are losing a good friend, it's never easy when a loved one passes on. I have had many animals over the years , and it never gets easier.
But after awhile you realise that the love and companionship they give is worth the pain when they go.
The worst for me was a tan hooded rat I had named Cindy, she was smarter than most people. I trained her from when she was young and she learned everything that I could teach her, she never bit anyone or peed outside of her cage. After 2 years of love and constant friendship, she became ill with cancer. It was throat cancer and was slowly closing off her airway so that she started to die of aphyxiation. I did not have the money to have her put down and had to cease her suffering myself. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do, and I was not the same for many years. I just got over the emotions accosiated with it in the last 3 years and have been able to bring myself to own pets again.
I know have 2 small puppies, and honestly could not concieve of being without them. They make everyday brighter, and make coming home every day almost like cristmas.
I wish you the best with your dear friend linus and hope you both have many more days together, live and love well my friend.
