My Grandfather & Father Have Passed Away

It's nice to hear from you. Sooner than maybe I expected to see you around the boards, but you seem like you're doing what you can to bear up. I'm glad for that, at least. It's also nice to see you taking an interest in doing the things you like. I hope to continue seeing you in the PbP arena and maybe in the Hive every once in a while.

My father passed away sometime in the last two days. He was in Albuquerque burying his father who had died a week earlier.
I'm sorry for you loss.

I can't help but feel really angry at him. He leaves a behind a wife, a son (me), a daughter and a grandson. This will probably mean huge lifestyle changes on the rest of the family. I don't know how to react to this, but am really, really angry. I am likely to not take a huge interest in my regular posting habits as I need some time to deal with this.
Assuming he didn't take his own life, it's not like he chose to leave. It's sad that you lost 2 family members so closely, but hopeefully they both lived full and happy lives, and leave behind a legacy that your family can be proud of.

Anger is natural though for many people.

This also means I'll never be going to another GenCon or any out of state gameday. And I really wanted to go to GenCon this year.
Why?

Thanks for all the support everyone. I didn't realize I had so many true online freinds.

ENWorld looks after its own. ;)

If it isn't too much trouble, maybe some of you that are able could drip me a cheap pdf every once in a while to help alleviate the stress of this. I don't expect anyone to, so I won't have any high hopes for this. And I'm not asking anyone to buy me pdfs, either.

What I mean is that those that publish their own pdfs would be doing me a great favor; and I'd gladly post reviews of them in exchange. I know it's been a while since I've written some reviews, but I haven't forgotten how.

...in your review, just don't mention the delays. ;)

Fru, I just saw this thread for the first time today. You have my most heartfelt condolences. Losing one realtive is bad enough, but to lose two in such a short period of time must be awful to endure. (Losing my brother was one of the hardest things I ever went through.)

Your emotions will rage out of control for some time, and my advice is to not hold back when it comes to greiving. When something like this happens it will do more harm than good to hold it in. Pain and anger like you're feeling right now will never go away completely, but it will get better as time goes by. (I can honestly say this because just writing that one line about my brother has made me very sad.) :(

You can always count on your friends here at EN World to give you an encouraging word. We are more than just a bunch of geeky gamers hanging out on a messageboard. We are an online community of friends.

Stay strong and have a blast watching M*A*S*H. (One of the best shows ever!)

your friend,

I buried my father today

So today was the day of the funeral. My dad had a buttload more friends from work than I thought he did. It was hard for me, as some of the eulogy really touched me. I cried a lot.

He got a six gun salute. Then taps was played. I cried more. I am really proud of him. He will be missed.

There was a reception at Maggiano's a local restaurant right after, hosted by Altria/Phillip Morris. It was essentially akin to a retirement party that he would have gotten otherwise. The whole family attended. We had some laughs and reminisced. My dad was a great man and he will be missed by many people.

I love you dad, I'll never forget you.

I never met the man but he sounds like someone I would have been honored to know. May he rest in peace in a much better place.

I hope to meet you though, someday, Rev, because I bet the apple didn't fall very far from the tree. :)
