We aren't EXACTLY sure what we are looking for... But we do have some things we'd like.

We want it to be modern or semi-near future. For example, Shadowrun would be ok (Although that doesn't count, we're looking for something knew and we are all familiar with Shadowrun), but Rifts wouldn't. Besides, nobody around here really likes the shadowrun rules all that much, for as great as the setting is.

We aren't really looking for a "modern day fantasy" campagin (Ala Shadowrun)... Something with a little fantasy might be ok (A little magic maybe... if he don't like it we can always remove it, but we'd rather it not be an integral part of the setting.

We'd like the game to have at least some level of focus on guns... preferably with rules for modifing them and such, so that a character's gun can be almost a part of the character rather than just an item he keeps for a level or two 'till he gets a better one.

Is there anything like this out there, or are we out of luck?

All Flesh Must Be Eaten (Make up your own gun modification rules) - Zombie horror roleplaying always has room for lots of guns. Big guns. Easy game to learn.

Cyberpunk 2020 - obvious choice, loads of firearms to select different ammo types, scopes, etc.

Hero-System - Dark Champions setting has loads of ideas for modify guns but the system is not for the faint hearted.

Well, my favorite modern RPG is the Delta Green setting for Call of Cthulhu. (Government conspiracies, Mythos monsters, Aliens, reanimate Nazis, allsorts of creepy goodness. It's incredibly well written and detailed)

Lots of guns, but maybe not quite the focus on guns you're looking for.

GURPS is a good system that can be customized to just about anything.

And the source books for cyberpunk, chthulupunk, high tech, etc... can get you going fast.

I've never really looked at Cyberpunk... how futuristic is it? And does it have gun modification rules of any sort built-in?

I've thought about Gurps, but to be honest, it has sorta a stigma localy... (Many jokes about the Complete Book of Gurps Books, Complete GURPS book of Rocks, etc...)... And it takes several books to get into it, as I Recall (Main book, at least one of the compendiums, then any supplements you might want rules from...)

Cyberpunk is all your Gun-Bunny friends could ask for.

Pick up the main rules, and "Blackhand's Street Weapons 2020" which has every published weapon in it.

I believe there are some rules in Soldier of Fortune for modifications to guns but built in it has...

AP, API, DP, Hollowpoints, Flechettes, Rubber bullets, Safety rounds, 14 different shotgun rounds. Electrothermal enchanced rounds. Oh and standard FMJ and Ball rounds.

Underslung grenade launchers, silencers, scopes, folding stocks, erm.... and a cuddly toy.

That's if one of the 250 weapons in Blackhand's Street Weapons don't suit you down to the ground to start with.

I'm for hero system especially since 5th ed actually seems to be coming out in the near future.

Also if you can deal with palladium games, beyond the supernatural is fairly fun. While magic is in the game the pc magic types really suck and guns and martial arts are just better. Also another good palladium game is ninjas and super spies.(this is more of a martial arts game than a gun game though.)

Call of Cthulhu has everything you need. Whether it's Cosmic Horror... or lots of guns to shot things ineffectively...CoC sounds like what you are looking for. And like Maerdwyn said, Delta Green is modern-day CoC...

Its out of print but Alternity is excellent. There are two great campaign setting for it (Star Drive-Space exploration and Darkmatter-modern day conspiracies etc) All you would need is the PHB and GMG to get started.

The system had some of the ideas that eventually led to the D20 system. Its fairly realistic with only a few hits before you go down and the PCs don't sprout massive HP increases as they increase in level. Armor serves as a damage reducer rather than a damage blocker. I really love it.
