I am the Dungeon Master for my family when we play Dungeons and Dragons. My nephew has been playing since summer of this year in 2024 and he loves the game. Whenever I am at his house he asks if he can play the game.

Besides dice and miniatures what sort of gift should I give him? He recently asked for the Dragonspire Peak Starter set.
Unless he already has one a PHB might be good, or even better a complete set of the core books of whatever version you are playing. He seems interested enough that it's not just a quick phase and might inspire him to try running his own games.

Good idea. He is most familiar with 5th edition 2014 rules. Maybe a Players handbook would be nice.

If he is interested in running the game the new DMG is very good for new DMs in my opinion. If he has the core books and is interested in running the game a copy of the "return of the Lazy Dungeon Master".
If he does not have any core books then yes the PHB.

Depending on your budget, maybe a short D&DB Master Tier subscription with digital content that would allow him to share content with other players could make things a lot easier to start a gaming group. I'm not sure if the 2014 versions are still available on D&DB to purchase, but I'd guess physical books can still be found.

DMsGuild has a bunch of material and free or pay what you want (PWYW) adventures if he is looking to try and being the DM.

Hero Forge has minis that you can make to look like whatever you want. I did buy my son a gift certificate to this 2 years ago and he never made a mini though. He wanted to wait until the next campaign to make it look like his PC, but he keeps waiting, like not using that potion in case you need it.

Dice, dice trays, and minis are always good to have. Some of the random mini boxes for D&D and Pathfinder work great. More expensive is something from Wyrmwood who make boxes to store minis and dice and act as a dice tray. I bought my son a travel bag that has space for the books and such , but the top is foam for minis and other small things. He also found a chainmail dice bag at the local convention

I spent some money making a Hero forge mini for his character.

The Phandelver starter set is very good too. My wife bought one to help start a D&D club at the school she works at.
That is another good idea.

And now I realize I made a typo in the forum title…..
