Gargoyle
Adventurer
I bought my 13 yr old son Ashton the new Gamma World rpg last year, and he ran the adventure in the rulebook for us this week. We all had a blast. We normally play D&D 4th, and so this was a nice bit of change, with enough familiarity so that it didn't play slowly.
Characters were:
Squawk - My wife's Hawkoid Empath (heals from above)
Calculus - My Speedster Mindbreaker (a telepathic, psionic blasting fast mover)
Erik - My younger son's Cockroach Electrokinetic (lightning arcing between his antenna)
We did great in the first two encounters, with some close calls, but victory overall, and had a lot of fun. Unfortunately today the third encounter resulted in a quick TPK. Some bad rolls and the fact there were only three of us playing and a newbie DM didn't help. Anyway, fun little game for a diversion, and we will play it again, but I don't think Ash wants to run it anymore, so I may run it for them at some point.
He did a good job, and I was proud of him, but like most people I think he prefers playing. Man I feel old. Just seems so recently that I bought my red box of D&D Basic for $12 in 1982 when I was his age.
