My Son

Congratulations. Your wife and your sons are beautiful. The story was hilarious and I laughed so hard I cried a couple times. I am glad your home birth went so well for you despite the late midwife thing.
I am having my 2nd baby in just a few weeks and chose my hospital because it is only one of 7 hospitals in the US that have a natural birthing center right inside of it. The nurses are trained as doulas and your nurse is only your nurse and she stays with you the whole time. Plus, if there are any complications the main part of the hospital is right down the hall.

Don't they normally induce the mother to bring on the labour or perform a c-section well before then? I thought that if labour goes on too long it can be dangerous for the mother or baby?

Having said that, I am far from a pregnancy expert. Also a lady my wife works with just had a baby last week and the labour was 41 hours long.

They were on the verge of inducing. In our health authority, they don't normally induce unless the baby is 2 weeks overdue, and they wouldn't operate unless there were complications. Labour was just slow.

Thanks, everybody. :) Having just made an emergency run to pick up more diapers, I believe we're settling in just fine.

Hyp: Sweet Christmas, man! She's going to kill me! (Also, I need a hotel room and as many d20s as you can find...)

Huw: Gah! I'm hoping it was a slow, puttering-along labor and not full-blown heavy-contractions for the whole time. Regardless, I'm glad that everyone came out okay.

Kahuna Burger: To be fair, the midwife did mention the Lotus thingie before. She brought it up at the end of one of the checkups in passing. I think we screwed up by just nodding politely instead of saying "Uh, hell no." I think she may also have been operating on autopilot -- my friend Cookie said that when she came in and Cookie said, "The baby's already here," the midwife ran down the stairs so quickly that she dropped her clipboard. So evidently she was a bit stressed out by us taking care of things without her. :)

And I'll be giving a few special people the placenta-card this year... :D

Harmon: Thanks. I really needed to get the thoughts down in writing somewhere before I forgot everything.

Aurora: Good luck. That sounds like a wonderful program!

My wife gave birth to our second son on Thursday morning. :)

Pictures (first set is the birth, second set is an older set of my older son, Garrett):

And the story, for those interested. It's long, and I'm only writing it once, if possible:

Short version, for those not into following links: he looks like most newborns (cute to us, though), and everyone is fine.
Congrats dude. A handsome dad, beautiful wife and a lovely son! :D

Hey, that sounds just like how my girlfriend ended up getting stalked by a multi-level marketer! :D
