D&D 5E My thoughts on 5E

5E kinda reminds me of World of Warcraft.

Wasn't sure if you were a troll or a 3.5 die hard to begin with (the latter is perfectly fine) but now you have just poked your head from under the bridge!

It reminds me of a long term significant other that know exactly what triggers a response. On the off chance you actually are legit. Please be reassure that most of what was in 4e that seemed catering to the mmo crowd (ie daily powers etc) are not in 5e.

Ok let me preface this once more with I do apologize to those that feel they are being offended, no troll involved, I left rpg's back in 2007 so I missed the 4e edition wars.

Anyway, before the good longtime posters here think I am assuming here, look at the Paladin class, in 3.5 you have 2 to 3 pages dedicated to the paladin class, in 5E you have several pages dedicated to the paladin class and too add, you have different fighting styles and different Oaths which kind of reminded me of WoW, not a bad thing because I do like WoW. It was an observation with no disrespect to 5E or the players who enjoy 5E, 4E, 3E, 2E and 1E.

Hmmm with so many editions, I really gotta watch what I say here or end up offending someone somewhere.

Essentially, I had 5 people swear off D&D for ever and switched to pathfinder (which is kind of wearing thin on me lately simply due to all the petty modifiers leftover from that edition).
That's funny. Like swearing off scotch and switching to bourbon.

One of the big questions I have about 5e is whether it'll turn out to be a better game than 3.5/Pathfinder. I really had my doubts during the playtest, and the Champion isn't so elegant as the Fighter, and neo-Vancian casting still seems like it drinks the 3.5 Sorcerer's milkshake. But, even so, I still don't feel the question has been answered. 3e is staggering under the weight of 14 years of supplements, including two reboots as 3.5 and as Pathfinder, and D&D has never held up well to power creep and bloat. So 5e can't help but look fresh and uncluttered by contrast.

I figure running a season of 5e Encounters will give me a better sense of it.
