Mystic theurge variation

HI folks

One of my fellow player would like to play the Mystic Theurge as a PrC for his mage/psion. Adapt a few skills, replace divine by psionic.. et voilà! With each level you gain one 'spellcaster' level of mage and psion. You get the point.

I don't really see a problem with this since I don't have problems with the mystic theurge as written. Is there something I overlooked with my estimation of the Theurge Psion?

P.S. I didn't know where to post this question: here, house rules or somewhere else but I would appreciate rules-oriented feedbacks. Feel free to move it

Thanks!

I would allow it in my campaign, but not to a powergamer player...

The psionic powers and the wizard spell list are similar, so you would have to live with a character capable of casting 6 or more desintegrates per day or other things like that. A wizard 3/Psion 3/Mystic theurge 10 will be casting at least two 6 level spells, and a psion 13 will have around 100 power points (counting bonuses) to cast it 8 times...

Or if the player goes for the defense, think a wizard with the shield spell plus Shield of prudence (+7 cover bonus +6 insight bonus) add a bracers of arnor +6, ring +4, and amulet of natural armor +3 (not very dificult to get at this levels) and dexterity +4 (not too difficult with cats grace or animal afffinity. The character will have ac 41 and will be very dificult to hit... I dont add haste, because in short it will be of limited use, but if you use it as is now, add 4 points of armor to get 45

Plus combined healing ability... He can rely on the wiz spells for raw power and use the psion things for low level munchiness.
