[Mythic Dream Studios] Dark Inheritance?

We hope you enjoy!

Looks good. I especially like the Explorer class that is something not covered by the core Advanced Classes but suits the genre very well.

Anyway my DI campaign starts this week. I am sure it has differences from the main setting as I have yet to see the setting :) but hopefully things will fit smoothly together. Any news on when the book will be back from the printers?

Thanks. I now have an Explorer character and he's been a lot of fun to play.

As for when we're getting the book, hopefully early next week. We're crossing our fingers to have the book at the GAMA trade show but it will still be early April before it's in stores. We'll be putting up a way to order the book on the website when we get back from GTS. I have finals this week so I won't have a chance to do it before hand.

Any chance on a comment why you decided to include foci in the magic system? I like it as it makes the magic less flashy and also provides personality i.e. a Society of the Iron Rose Initiate who uses a crucifix or holy relics as a foci.

Good luck with finals :)

Most interesting 8).

I'm looking forward to seeing this book at GAMA. The use of action points to buy benefits is about the most interesting thing I've heard out of D20 Modern as a mechanic.

I was looking through the .pdfs, and I had a question about the Void Phoenix power Chaos Construct. It creates a Strong Hero with a level equal to the titan's. What happens if the generating titan is higher than 10th level?

Thanks! One down, one to go.

Good question. The reason is actually very straight forward and simple. The Dark Inheritance cosmology is different from a normal D&D style universe and material components simply didn't make sense for the setting. At the same time we didn't just want to remove something without replacing it. Material components play a role in balancing magic use. So we took a cue from the real world and various other non-d20 RPGs and settled on the focus.

We've found that it really changes the feel of the game. It feels less like D&D magic with a focus and we liked that for this setting.

Thanks Scott, that means a lot coming from you. I've been most impressed with Spycraft and Shadowforce Archer as a whole but the mechanics of the game are particularly well done.

Good question and something we should have clarified. The construct continues to increase in level beyond the normal Strong Hero limit, using the normal progression for that base class. We should have included a table instead that would separate it from the Strong Hero level limit.

It also made me realize that no matter how many times we went over the book, some things just slip through. Chaos Construct shouldn't have a Target: 30 ft. emenation, it should be Effect: One summoned chaos construct.

I certainly hope you have one I can look through at GAMA, Chad. I'm going to be there on Thursday, so I'll make sure an swing by to say hi!

The printer has said we'll have the book for the show. They're overnighting us a box that should arrive Monday or Tuesday. <crosses fingers while intoning words long forgotten and offering blood sacrifices to the Daemonhost Lords of Printers>

It'll be great to see you there Wil!

I just found out that the Mythic Dreams admins have put up the MDS forums. Though not on the website yet, they're up and running.

http://www.mythicdreams.com/forum/

It's capable of users now... and I know a few of the writers are on there already. Might wanna start posting there. You might get some more answers.

Sounds like a really interesting setting. I read throug ha couple of the pdfs and most of the above posts. I think I like it. But I have a few questions. Does it require D20 Modern? I think the answer is obvious, but you'll have to excuse me. Also, I'm getting a really strong Aberrant/Exalted mixed with Unknown Armies and Feng Shui feel here. Is that pretty much right?
