Ever noticed how DM's tend to make fairly awful, attention hogging players? (Well, except me of course.)


There's your problem. He's rebelling against your tyrannical rule. Crush him. Before he ruins the game. When he goes and does things like that, just say "You do this -" and move on. Don't argue, just say his turn is over.

If he gets upset, show him for the childish attention hog that he is. Something like "Stop hogging all the action - you aren't the only player" might help. If he goes bonkers, show him the door - life is too short to have the games you work on ruined.


For the sake of the other players as well. Do you think they like it when the DM gets aggravated and the game slows to a crawl?

If you want to call him anything, you're making a mistake. Not calling him is the solution. So if you're calling everyone else to come playing, you don't call him.

I suggest that you let him do it - for one round. And then, you say this: "You are hit by a cow plummeting from the heavens. You're dead." Nothing gets your intention across more clearly.


Anyway, I could understand him if we were talking about 2e. It was the exact opposite of his behaviour. I always wondered why my fighter needed 60 seconds just to draw his freaking sword, or why a magic missile - something that was always described as a fast magical effect - took away one minute of my time as well.

But now we have 6-second rounds, and it the current time frame makes sense.

And a player who talks back even when the DM tells him how it's going to work deserves the boot.

Ahh, the good ole Orbital Cow Launcher. Many a clueless Shadowrun character has met their doom that way.

Careful, there are apparently folks around here who think that the players are the ones who run the game. I never understood that mentality myself, but there seem to be several of them. Rule #1 has always been, don't argue with the GM.

It's funny how many players don't understand that.
 

Some of these names are a little... aggressive. :)

A non-confrontational term that reminds the player of the rules would be better.

Personally, I like "hastened" or "hasted" or even "multi-hasted". During a game you could just comment "Oops, your haste spell just expired" as a gentle reminder that they just can't take that many actions.

The character Von Ether refers to could be called a "teleporter." Out of character you could say "Sorry, you've used up all your teleports for the day" if they try to be somewhere they are not.

I beg your pardon. I'm very aggressive! :]

I understand you. Gentle reminders are fine. But in this circumstance, I fear they won't help in that case. The guy is no beginner, he even is a DM himself, and keeps on arguing about the very same thing all the time. He even yelled at the DM because his over-the-top stuff didn't work.

I do think that the GM shouldn't do what he wants, never to ask the players what they want (if the player's aren't having any fun, they will go, and a DM without players is nothing). But we aren't talking about discussions about playing style, power level, or the like. We're talking about someone who refuses to use the rules as written down in the book and approved by the DM (and all the other players as well), not backing down even when the DM tells him he cannot do it repeatedly.
 

Some terms I would suggest are Senator (U.S. senators may speak for an unlimited time), a Swiss-Army Player (does everything), or a Compulsive Overactor.
 

I suggest to apply rule 0 : It's my game and you can only do 2 actions per rounds :cool:, and if he continues to argue that he can do whatever he is wanting to do you could simply leave him in the middle of the 3 action ....

..... without having his dex bonus to AC, plus 5 rogues/assasins aiming him with crossbows :D
