Name this race!

I have another idea for ECL 1 humanoids, and I thought I would bounce them off of you guys to help me make ‘em real. :)

“Celestial mountain men”

Lawful Neutral

(well, I didn’t mean to make them sound like rednecks...)

These people live high in mountain peaks or ancient forest treetops, and are often mistaken for celestials. These large humanoids are often over 7 feet tall, though their bones are hollow and they weigh much less than one would expect. They dress in modest tunics or finely crafted animal hides. They look similar to humans of elves of great stature, and usually sport long hair of all colors of the spectrum, but with no facial hair.
These people speak Common, Elf, Auran, and some do know Celestial. While their appearance suggests they have some sort of connection to extraplanar beings, they are very much mortal.

Their society is highly adaptable to what is going on in their region. They are an extremely lawful people, and the whole of their society can change in an instant to meet the needs of the people. If they are at war with another race, all of these people become militaristic or change their goals to suit the war. If they are involved in some sort of undertaking or discovery that will benefit their society, all of the people change their lifestyle to facilitate this goal. Normally though, they spend their time as peaceful philosophers.

Their favored class is wizard, and their leaders tend to be wizards or wizard/monks. clerics can choose from the Air, Knowledge, Law, or Protection domains.

(give me an idea for a unique ability for these guys... there are already winged humanoids, but i like my idea for their society) :)

Name possibilities:
Ingyl/Engyl (from angel)
Mindfolk (description implies a semi-hivemind)
Mentir (from mind)
Ha'aviir (hive and avian)
Celivee (Celestial Hive)

Ability: They receive an insight bonus to AC equal to their Wis bonus. In times of need, they may instead apply it to Attack or Spell save DCs, but lose the AC bonus for an amount of time.

Name: Aviran
Ability: Permanent featherfall effect as extraordinary ability (effectively becomes immune to falling damage.)

Later,

hmm... i wasn't really thinking of them as any sort of hivemind (sorry to the hiveminders), but more of them as being an instinctively cooperative collective. :) they're not formians, that's for sure.

i'll give some thought to the names and special abilities.

From their description, I would imagine they would be predisposed towards psionics in a setting where that exists.

Their adaptability is intriguing, its not the same kind as a humans. They aren't much more skilled, but can alter their focus as necessary. I would let them use any non-exclusive skill untrained, give them +2 to any one non exclusive skill, and let them switch it to another skill as needed (perhaps with a day of study).

As for stats, definitely give Int and Wis bonuses. Physical stats can vary, hollow bones suggest lower Con but their sheer bulk may make up for it. I can see them being strong or fast or tough. Give them whatever you feel appropriate.

Now for names:

Erutasada
Liatsien
Tselec

(I wont say how I came up with these, my techniques are silly. :D )

That's why I called it a semi-hivemind. :)

I was quite aware at what you were getting at, and the hivemind has no hard feelings towards you. ;)

Lets see...you could give them a bonus to spot checks like eagles or Avorals though that isn't too special.

For a load of celestial flavour races you could try Kamikaze Midget's planetouched thread in house rules, I did a few too :P

I'll do a bit of thinking for an ability too...

Ideas for names...

Laudinals
Espers
Aesil
Phosephor
Rauln

hmm, i wasn't really thinking planetouched, as their resemblance to celestials is merely coincedental (although, maybe they would like to beleive it's not). still, i'll check that out. :)

LN celestial mountain men. Lama ? ;)

More seriously... What about Moniase ? It's the name that came to my mind reading the stuff. "Mon" begins like both "monacal" (goes well with mountain, lawfulness, and celestialness) and "mountaign" (minus the u), "ase" refers to the olympian gods; and the whole stand on its own IMO, sounding like a name that could actually exist.

Also, why do they speak elf ? Elves are chaotic and live in forests; they are lawful and live on mountaintop. I could see them speaking dwarf or giant more easily than elf.
