I have also thought about Apprentice or Novice as first tier, but that does sound like they have a Teacher which is usually not the case.

I like Heroic, Paragon and Epic too, but this is missing a fourth one. Maybe a "Veteran" between Hero and Paragon or <Adventurer, Hero, Paragon, Epic>
That works though I think of the first 4 as Farmer or Apprentice levels that has more dignity I suppose.

Are level 1 heroes complete noobs? I've never taken that way. They're more experienced than common folks.

I think it should be Veteran/Hero/Paragon/Epic, if we're tacking on to the 4E names to name the 4th tier.

Fragile as flowers in most editions :) , 4e has minion class enemies even at level 1 in which it is obvious they are not newbs (themes and a feat at level 1), but I translate that to level 3-5 in 5e . Gygax and Arneson themselves skipped the first levels in their own home games. Gygax never the less named level 1 fighter veteran which at some level implies something under the belt.
