Narnia D20 RPG?

If that's the case, then it suggests to me that, for whatever reason, the license didn't include RPGs (because, if it did, you'd think they'd have the book out now, or at least have announced it, to take advantage of the PR around the movie release).

*snort* Uh, this is Hasbro we are talking about. Probably 9/10th of the folks on this board could tell you that doing a G.I.Joe RPG would be worth taking a shot... Nope, no Joe RPG :p. My money says they have all ancilary rights and just haven't realized they could pass some of those on to those whacky litttle card guys out in Seattle and get some modest income for them. And I do mean modest - given all the other ways they can exploit the lisence, writing an RPG has got to be close to the worst return on time invested.

Also, with a 10 year lisence, they are commited for a while and clearly expecting more movies to happen - probably 6 more of them. It's not the worst business move to sit back and study the demographics of the first movie before moving on this particular front. Even moreso than Lord of the Rings, this iron is going to be fairly warm for a long time.

So we should listen to that portion of Christians?

How about listening to OUR portion of Christians with no issue with RPG?

My point was, if the individuals who control the Lewis estate are among those Christians who have issues with RPGs, that could be an explanation as to why there isn't a Narnia RPG.

Possibly. It all depends on how TLtWatW does at the box-office. If it does well, I'm sure Disney will pick up options to do additional movies in the series. If not, it all goes away (I'd have to imagine that the licensing agreement Hasbro has allows Hasbro an out if they don't make additional movies).

And, my personal opinion: even if these do well, I don't see them being as big a cultural phenomenon as the LotR movies were.

I read not too long ago that Disney's been sitting on the movie rights for about 12 years, and haven't done anything with it because of lobbying by rights groups who oppose the overt christian themes that underlie the story. AND that it was work by an outspokenly evangelical billionaire that got them to go ahead and make the film.

Which does suggest, at least to me, that the people "behind" the movie are quite likely the same types of folks who think RPGs are the devil.

But it's more likely, IMHO, that for a company like Hasbro it'd not really be worth the expense.
