Narnia d20?

Good ideas...

* If using clerics and bards, go through their spell lists and omit those that do not fit in with the Narnia setting.

That would be all of them. A consistent theme in all of C.S. Lewis's fiction is that the use of magic is not at all appropriate for humans.

True enough. But clerics wouldn't be casting spells, per se, but praying for miracles. And, of course, all PC clerics would be Christians.

As for bards.... well, they would indeed be casting spells, albeit through their music. So, I guess that would make PC bards a no-no. Still, you might want to allow for them. After all, their magic is mostly non-violent and even innocuous, and its casting does not involve the "occult" rituals and paraphernalia of wizards and sorcerers. Again, you could say that the "magic" of PC bards is actually "miracles", related to the faith and heroism of their prayers and hymns. (You could pare down their spell list to reflect this.)

Would it be very playable? It certainly isn't as easy to create a Narnian adventure as it is to populate a dungeon with monsters and say, "go get 'em!" (I'm not saying it would be unplayable, simply that hack-n-slash D&D is extremely playable.)
I think it would. Obviously, dungeon hacks wouldn't be as prevalent as more investigative adventures, but I don't see why they would be impossible?

No, I didn't really make the comment to suggest it would be a good thing. It would just happen. I think I thought I was being witty, but I realize I wasn't. Sorry. :)

Remember, too, that the world of Narnia is in fact part of a huge multiverse. There are other worlds than Narnia, and it is possible to travel from one to the other.

Miracles vs. Spells

True enough. But clerics wouldn't be casting spells, per se, but praying for miracles.
A key aspect of a miracle though is that it's miraculous; you can't have reliable spellcasting mechanics for such miracles.

That is true. And yet...

Mana falling from the sky, daily, to feed the Israelites struggling in the wilderness, was a reliable foodsource for them. Nevertheless, it was a miracle.

Also, let us bear in mind that this is makebelieve. The point of an adult DM conducting a group of youngsters through Narnia, roleplaying heroic fantasy version of themselves, is for everyone to have fun and maybe to challenge those youngsters morally as well as intellectually. It is not (or should not be) the point to preach dogma or to teach supernatural realities (whatever those realities might be).

Hong, did you inadvertently put this block of irrelevant nonsense in the wrong post? Or are you being your usual obnoxious self, trying to derail a post with your ubiquitous, self-gratifying "humor"?
