Hong, did you inadvertently put this block of irrelevant nonsense in the wrong post? Or are you being your usual obnoxious self, trying to derail a post with your ubiquitous, self-gratifying "humor"?

Well, I typed it with both hands, so I can't have been gratifying myself, if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

Right. But that still allows you to stroke your ego, eh, hong?

Yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind. You could also create a Scout class fairly easily. In fact, you could probably just rename Rogue...

Look, people, let's stop hijacking Capellan's thread okay? I'm sure he doesn't appreciate us going off on a tangent and talking about something COMPLETELY UNRELATED to the topic at hand. EVEN if it involves stroking myself, which is NOT AT ALL something I normally object to.

So anyway, we were talking about NARNIA, being the place where NARNS come from. Although I am not sure where all this talk about Christianity came from, Narns not having much have to do with Christianity as far as I can tell. Is there some sort of analogy being made between Narns and the Pharisees? If so, what role does G'kar play? I guess you could call him a sort of latter-day Herod, but that's really stretching things. Next you'll be calling Sheridan Jesus, and Ivanova Mary Madgalene, or something equally ridiculous.

Wow, Ysgarran - what a timely and intriguing post!

I wonder how indicative are the following quotes: "Now, borrowing a page from a literary upstart named Harry Potter, the Lewis estate and its publishers have started shaping a marketing makeover of Aslan and assorted Narnian habitués to expand readership and extend the brand... They have developed a discreet strategy to avoid direct links to the Christian imagery and theology that suffused the Narnia novels and inspired Lewis."

While I'm sure they're not going to go so far as to edit out the Christian allegory/symbolism from the original Narnia stories, as written by C.S. Lewis, I am sure they're going to forbid even a hint of Christian allegory or symbolism in the forthcoming Narnia stories, to be written by authors in HarperCollins' stable.

But, yeah: With this new marketing strategy by HarperCollins and the Lewis estate, a d20 roleplaying game based on Narnia *is* now a possibility.

I'd like to find an example of one of these new 'Narnia' books to see if this link has any truth to it. A quick search on the UK amazon site didn't reveal any books besides the core Narnia stories. (There were a few companion books on Narnia but no new stories for it).

On the other hand:
http://www.narnia.com/
doesn't mention the Christian allegories at all.

Andrew Adamson (who also directed Shrek) will be directing the "THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE".

Ysgarran.

p.s.
I'm going to open up a discussion on the movie board about the Narnia movie.

I'd like to disagree with two assumptions that keep cropping up in this thread:

1. The PCs should be children from earth. I disagree. How many people from earth ever went to Narnia in its entire 2555-year history? About a dozen or so. It was extremely rare for earthlings to go to Narnia. For PCs, I'd have them be natives of Narnia. As such, they could be men, talking animals, or the various races taken from Greco-Roman mythology.

2. Aslan should regularly appear to the PCs. I disagree. Aslan's appearances are extraordinarily rare. The typical Narnian would live out his whole life without ever seeing Aslan. Just as in real life almost nobody ever has a vision of God, so in Narnia almost nobody ever sees Aslan.

Clearly, the focus of the Chronicles of Narnia is on the humans from our world and their adventures in Narnia. The roles of "the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve" are *pivotal* in Narnian history, even if their appearances were few and far between.

How many commonfolk in Middle Earth, throughout its history, ever get to meet elves and adventure side-by-side with them? But would you be interested in a Middle Earth campaign without any elves in it whatsover, as either player characters or NPCs?

What if you were playing a Biblical campaign: Would you want to be a player character during the many lulls in the Old Testament that lasted for centuries; that is, the lulls between God's appearances and direct interventions with the Israelites? For example, some 400 years occurred between the time of Joseph and the time of Moses; would you want to roleplay an Israelite slave under the bondage of Egypt, during that long time period, where God is silent and hidden -- and seemingly inactive -- all throughout your generation and the generations before yours, and the generations after yours?

Myself, if I'm going to play in a *Narnia* campaign, either as a player or as a DM, Aslan *is* going to be making an appearance!
