Nation building?

Any d20 publishers planning on coming out with a guide to nation building? Something that allows people to set up believable kingdoms, for the late-middle ages/early renaissance period covered by standard D&D? (With, of course, the few changes that might be wrought by standard levels of magic.)

Maybe! There's a book coming from Eden called "Fields of Blood"

http://www.edenstudios.net/odyssey/7005.html

"Fields of Blood: The Book of War provides everything you need to rule a nation, raise an army, and assault your enemies on the battlefield. With rules governing anything from small keeps to vast nations, your character can now be a hero both in the dungeon and on the battlefield.

Fields of Blood: The Book of War is totally scalable to suit your campaign.

Inside you will find:
-A complete set of detailed wargame rules based on the d20 system mechanic to resolve combat at any scale.
-Rules for leading troops. Anything from a small squad of men to an army of thousands!
-Rules for governing. Everything from the cost of building and maintaining a small keep, to taxing a nation of millions.
-Rules for NPC nations allowing GMs to run several dozen opposing realms at a time.
-Leadership rules for every class, using your character's strengths to lead an army.
-Rules for using miniatures, or tracking the battles on a simple map.
-New prestige classes for every character type, designed for use with this system"

Not due out any time soon, I'm afraid.

*grumble grumble*

That's one of the supplements out of Eden Studios over which I've been drooling.... (The others being Waysides and the Monsternomicon.) I hope they hurry up and get them completed.

In the meantime, I'm trying to find Dragon Annual #4. I've given up searching for my copy of it, so I'm ordering a new one (at probably 2x what I paid for the last copy). It has a Skills&Powers nation creation system. Not detailed, but it tries to balance the nations....

Actually, that system is in Dragon #259 (I didn't see anything similar in Annual #4).

By Jove, you're right. All this time, I've been searching for my copy of Dragon Annual #4, and the stuff I've been looking for was in that edition.... Thanks! :)

So, what IS in Dragon Annual #4? As long as I'm already ordering it, I might as well know what I'm going to get...

Correct - on both accounts. Where it is located & how awesomely cool that article is. Never used S&P, but that article gets alot of use.

No problem :) I used that article myself, and remembered it was in a "standard" issue (along with a yuan-ti on the cover).

Hold on...<goes back into closest, moves old 14" monitor out of the way - what am I saving that for? - moves box of Conans off of top of Dragon box...shuffles around...>...here 'tis:

- Campaign holidays in Greyhawk
- Linguistic atlas of the Forgotten Realms
- Gods of Krynn
- DarkMatter module
- Magic for the Marvel Superheroes game
- 4-page Nodwick story (Dragonlance-based)
- Gygax article on history of gaming (standard fare)
- Humorous Gygax predictions for next 25 years (I thought it was pretty lame)
- DarkMatter Fast-Play rules
- Standard features (Arcane Lore, Dungeon Mastery, Dragon Ecologies, etc.).

Looks like a few things of interest...
