Native American Environments

Do any of your friends game? Could you get them on these boards to chat about their part of the country and their ancestors? Their perspective could be helpful.

The group I used to game with were all non-Indian. Although I had one friend who was Dene (Navajo), but he has since moved away and I have lost contact with him. Since I have gone back to school, I haven't been gaming much with the exception that I am teaching my 10 year old son.

One of my best friends is Okanagan (Colville) and I think he would be great in a role-playing game as he is a dramatist and writer. However, I haven't persuaded him yet.

On a similar note, the Indian author Sherman Alexie used to play D&D but I don't know if he still does. I only met him once, and it was in a non-gaming enviroment. In his writing (and the movie Smoke Signals), Thomas Builds-The-Fire, is described as an "Indian Nerd." Yes, it appears that Geekdom is a universal cultural phenomena.

From the looks of this thread, there already appears to be others who have shared about their part of the country and their ancestry. I encourage them and others to keep sharing :D

I love that movie - Thomas was just so funny and showed that it was ok to be 'native' and geek too:) While Victor was just so classically 'staunch native chic

Hey cuz!

Wow, Tonguez - I knew you ran a mystical Polynesia type setting, but always assumed you were Hawaiian or maybe a Polynesia-obsessed American.

Fancy that?!? A gamer of Pacific Islander descent - I thought I already knew the only one who ever existed; my foster brother is Samoan.

Or are you Maori?

Yep Maori - Native Polynesian of Aotearoa and if I may include your foster brother one of the 3 'Polynesians' that I know of who are also gamers. Sadly the idea of RPGs is not big in the Pacific Community - mainly I suppose because being a geek is not big in the Pacific community either:P
