Nazareth Awakened - Chapter 02: Wives of Solomon

Agnasci is overjoyed at his first success with the scrying spell. He keeps his composure though. The trickiest part is still ahead of him.

One by one, Agnasci touches the others in the room through his scrying window, starting with Harper. Hopefully someone will recognize the contact and use mage sight to see him...

Agnasci, Chance, Harper, and Law

Agnasci's scrying window slips up invisibly beside Harper. It's an odd thing to do, touching someone without actually using your body. He pushes himself into Harper's back, hoping he can be felt.[sblock=Sensing Agnasci]Roll: Wits 2 + Composure 4 = Success with 2 successes
Harper can sense something as it slides across his back[/sblock]Harper jumps when he feels something suddenly slide across his back. He instinctively swipes at the air with his arm but catches nothing. There's no mistaking what he felt.

Agnasci's scrying window moves on to the others.[sblock=Sensing Agnasci]Chance's Roll: Wits 3 + Composure 3 = Success with 1 success
Law's Roll: Wits 2 + Composure 3 = Success with 1 success
Chance and Law can both feel Agnasci's presence, same as Harper[/sblock]All three of the mages have felt something invisible touching them.

Harper, Thyrsus mage

Harper shivers briefly as the contact sends a chill down his back. "I felt it." His brow wrinkles and his face takes on a look of intense concentration. "I felt it right after you cast that spell. What was it, anyway?" His look includes both Law and Chance as he isn't quite sure which one did it.

Chance shakes her head as she looks around. "Wasn't me. I did feel a spell though. I thought it was one of you guys."

She reaches out to take hold of the glasses again.

"I wonder if Agnasci did something to the glasses, so we'd set it off if we touched it."

"Well, Harper, guess if you ken do something with 'em, go ahead. Law and me'll keep an eye out in case that weird spell turns into something bad."

Harper, Thyrsus mage

Harper doesn't know what to do and is too prideful to admit it. He takes the glasses from Chance and cups them in his hand. He closes his eyes and visualizes the imago of the spell he is trying to cast: Harper looks through the darkness for the light of Agnasci's soul...

[sblock=OOC]Harper is trying to cast a spell similar to Sense Life but for a soul, specifically Agnasci's soul, using Spirit magic.[/sblock]

"I'm casting a spell now."

Law only says something now to avoid further confusion and casts Mage Sight.
Which mage sight?

Harper is trying to cast a spell similar to Sense Life but for a soul, specifically Agnasci's soul, using Spirit magic.
Harper focuses and a moment later he can feel the presence of his own soul and those of Chance, Law, Faye, and even Penrose downstairs. Crow, interestingly, does not seem to have a soul. But Harper can tell that he can do more than simply sense souls. He can track them (pg 276 of the Mage: The Awakening rulebook), even without knowledge of the Space arcanum. He tries it.
[sblock=Tracking Agnasci's Soul]Gnosis 1 + Spirit 2 - sympathy penalty 8 = Failure with 0 successes
Tracking Agnasci's soul proves too great a challenge for Harper. Even with Willpower the pool would be at -1 and thus one fewer than required for at least a chance die[/sblock]Harper gets dizzy after concentrating too hard on the task before him. He knows it's a fruitless effort and can tell why immediately: He may have a strong sympathetic connection to Agnasci just by nature of knowing the man as he does, but Agnasci is not the same thing as Agnasci's soul (in game terms, when you don't have something with a sympathetic connection to the soul itself - such as the body to which it belongs - sympathetic magic targeting it will be at two degrees of sympathy lower than normal, similar to not knowing a mage's true name).

Harper, Thyrsus mage

Harper expels his breath in a tortured groan laden with frustration. He hands the glasses to Chance again and then wipes the sheen of sweat that formed on his forehead onto the sleeve of his hoodie. He shakes his head in the negative.

"The glasses weren't enough. I don't have enough of a, uh..." He hesitates searching for the proper terminology. "Not enough sympathetic connection with Agnasci." His failure obviously rankles. "I sensed him out there, I just couldn't track him to his location."

[/section]

"Well he's alive then," Chance says with a nod. "That's more than we had before. All right, no substitute for elbow grease, I guess. We'll just have to skip-trace him. We'll go out to where he was parked, and I'll keep fishing back in time until I see him leave. Then I'll watch where he goes, and we'll head to the spot where I lose sight of him. Then I look back again and we follow where he goes from there."

She waves a hand around.

"And so on, and so on. It'll take awhile, but we'll find him."
