Nazareth Awakened - Chapter 02: Wives of Solomon

All right, knuckleheads, Agnasci says to himself, cursing the other mages. Last chance. Which one of you monkeys is the least retarded? The mages seem profoundly useless to him now, as he watches them dawdle impotently. But does he really have to use a mage? He doesn't even know any of their real names.

He settles on Faye. His will forms the image of the spell - a scream directly into Faye's mind. Agnasci pours all the effort he dares into casting yet another sympathetic spell. He feels the dreadful tug of paradox creeping through and around him. It's too much. He can't resist it this time.

HELP! he screams, but there are no words. His face is stoic and silent, while his soul wails with strain and effort.

Agnasci casts Voice From Afar, using a point of Willpower, and two points of Destiny dice. If the spell success allows more communication, Agnasci will add "MURDER!" to the mental communication.

Agnasci

"PENROSE"

Agnasci

Agnasci feels paradox churning through the waters of reality around him. The bikers in the basement can't sense it, but to the mage it's an overpowering sensation. Thankfully the moment passes without incident - he's avoided paradox yet again.

He focuses on Faye. Come on... She can't be that resistant, can she? He feels her mental resistance, feels his spell crumbling in futility against it, and focuses as much of his effort as he can into forcing his will to become reality.

HELP! MURDER! PENROSE!

Agnasci has 2 Willpower and 5 Mana remaining.

Chance, Harper, and Law

The three mages feel the spark of magic as another spell is cast. Law and Chance see it materialize around Faye out of nowhere.

Faye sits upright with a start, her book dropped to the ground. She looks straight ahead, as if staring out of the room. A moment later she's tearing across the room to the Employees Only door, which she pulls open before throwing herself through.

Chance goggles, then follows!

(OOC - lol, that's a bit harsh, Ag...we haven't got a lot of options for tracking you down, and since you didn't tell us where you were going... :P)

Harper, Thyrsus mage

[section]
Harper is baffled but follows after Faye, Law, and Chance. He activates his Second Sight as he goes. He doesn't want to miss anything more and he feels like he's already missing vital elements.

Chance, Harper, and Law

All three of them have mage sight now and can see the spell among them clear as day.

The mages race after Faye, leaving the hovering spell behind in the bookstore. Whoever's spell it is, it doesn't seem able to follow them out of that room. The group moves into the bathroom, down the hidden steps, through the waiting area and the metal door, and into Penrose's living room. The four pile up outside the door to the inner sanctum, Faye knocking urgently.

"Come in" comes the usual reply. Faye pushes her way in and the others follow.

Inside, everything still outlined in blue, Penrose is reading from a thick book in his lap - the tome radiates with magic. Penrose seems more exhausted than ever, dark rings formed around both eyes. The rash on the back of his left hand has spread, likely from constant scratching. The extra chairs from earlier are gone, but the map, the crystal, and the ball bearing making laps are all still here. The old mage looks up at the group, irritation forming on his face at the unexpected visit from his students.

"Penrose," Faye starts at once, "I just heard from Agnasci. Help - murder - Penrose -" She's talking a mile a minute.

He closes his book, more annoyed than worried. "All right, all right. Slow down. What's going on?"

"I don't know," she gasps helplessly. "Apparently they haven't heard from him in days - and they were asking for his sunglasses - and -"

Penrose lifts a hand to silence her. He turns his tired gaze on his pupils. "Tell me."

Agnasci

Agnasci watches through his scrying window as Faye reacts to his message and bolts downstairs, the others hot on her trail.

Back at his present location the door at the top of the basement stairs opens and Mad Dog's voice calls down. "All right, let's roll."

BR and Buddha-man exchange glances one last time before heading over to grab Agnasci, still wound up in chains. Buddha takes Agnasci in hand under his arms, pulling the mage's back against his chest, and BR lifts their captive at the legs.

Agnasci is panicking now. His only hope is a tired old Mage who never took the slightest interest in his well being. "You don't have to do this, Rich!" he says, unable to keep a hysterical edge out of his voice. "he's not right! He's sick, and you know it. Just put me down and let's talk. You don't want to do this, I know it."

Agnasci struggles against them, trying to buy time. It's sure to be ineffective, but every second counts.

Law speaks up,

"We don't know much, he's been gone a while and we were going to try and track him down. There's an active spell upstairs and we're pretty sure its Agnasci trying to call for help. We need your help to find him. Once we do I can get the NPD involved. It's better the Police get involved than us using magic... I think."

He scratches the back of his head awaiting Penrose's orders.
