Nazareth Awakened - Chapter 02: Wives of Solomon

"No matter what he did to Agnasci, he's still human."

Agnasci says nothing, but casts a hateful look toward Rich. He would never tell this to Harper, but Rich would be better off if Harper fails. Agnasci will make sure of it.

The thought of revenge on Rich drives him to a sudden, renewed frenzy, straining with tremendous effort against the chains, even as Law drags him away. "Just do it, already!" he shouts.

"Alright alright, calm down man, I'm working on it."

Law says to Agnasci, trying to calm him down. To the others,

"We have 3 sleepers that have seen magic at work, that's a serious problem. The one you're trying to save, the one in the bathroom and the one who undoubtedly just had a nasty spill on his bike. We need to round them up and figure out what to do."

Law contemplates what the likelihood is that anyone would believe what these guys had to say but to Law it doesn't matter.

"What do you guys think we should do about this situation?"

He wants to suggest asking Penrose what his thoughts on the matter were but decides against it knowing that Chance wants to be more self reliant.

Chance comes over to Agnasci and gets a few tools out of their hiding places on her person, but hesitates when she feels Law's spell go off. Watching the lock with some interest she replies, perhaps frustratingly, "We should talk to Penrose. This is way over our heads right now."

She waves a hand around. "This magic? It's like... You guys it's so crazy. It's like someone just rewrote how the universe works. Not little psychic tricks, or even the stuff we've seen Penrose do. This is like...on another level. And like it or not, Penrose is the only one we know who might have any idea what that means."

Harper, Thyrsus mage

[section]
Harper is really too busy to talk much but he says quickly, "They'll forget, won't they?"

He shoots a quick glance over at Agnasci and the look of worry is evident on his face. He says nothing else at the moment, though.

"Hang on," Chance looked back at Harper as her brain caught up with current events after being dazzled by that spell. "Did you say the biker stopped?"

"Law, have you got this? I'm gonna get him!"

"That man is dangerous, I'm not letting you go alone."

Law is sure she could handle herself, hell they are mages, he still can't justify letting her go alone.

"He won't get far. We have a tail on him and he's probably injured. As soon as I get Agnasci out of these chains we'll go. In the meantime I have a couple pairs of handcuffs in the glovebox. We'll need em so you mind grabbing them?"

Chance was out the door no sooner had Law mentioned the handcuffs.

"On it!" she called.

Outside, Chance went to the truck and opened the glove compartment. It was handy, sometimes, having a friend in the force. Friend? Co-worker, maybe. She wasn't entirely sure she could trust him with non-business stuff yet.

But this? This was biz.

She pulled her gun out and started jogging down the street towards where the bike stopped. That guy wasn't going to get away while they waited for Law to maybe get Agnasci out.

Woop woop! En World's back!

Law drags Agnasci into the kitchen, out of sight of the sleepers. He focuses on the lock keeping Agnasci bound in chains and casts a spell much like the one he cast back at the church.[sblock=Paradox]Paradox Roll: 1 base + cumulative 1 - magical tool use 1 = Success with 1 success
Backlash Willpower Roll: 4 remaining Willpower = Failure with 0 successes
There is a havoc paradox. Law cannot contain it with backlash damage[/sblock]Law feels paradox honing in on his position. He could have used mana to mitigate the chances but it's too late for that now. He concentrates as hard as he can on containing it within himself but the feeling overpowers him. In the next moment he feels his spell going off, but not on the padlock. Oh no. He instinctively reaches for his gun and draws it from its holster. The firearm's body has been irreversibly degraded - it's covered in rust and he knows it'd crumble and bend like the chain at the church. It's been ruined. Agnasci remains bound.

Harper meanwhile is continuing his lifesaving efforts in the hall.

Chance has dashed out to the Tahoe and retrieved Law's cuffs. Next she's sprinting down the street toward the corner the biker had turned on.

It's been about 45 seconds since the group arrived at the house.

"Well s**t."

Law says as his gun falls apart in his hands.

"Hold on, I got this."

Law focuses once more, trying the spell one more time, burning willpower and also clutching the lead coin in his pocket.

Law tries casting the spell again, again not using mana to mitigate the chances of paradox.[sblock=Paradox]Roll: Base 1 + cumulative 2 - magical tool 1 = Failure with 0 successes
There is no paradox[/sblock]Law feels Paradox pass over him like a shadow, but it's gone in a moment.[sblock=Spell: Decay]Roll: Gnosis 1 + Death 2 + Willpower 3 = Success with 1 success
Law reduces the durability of the padlock by 1[/sblock]The spell fires successfully, but the padlock doesn't degrade as completely as his handgun. Its strength has been reduced to that of wood. He could either try casting the spell again to degrade it further or find something to bash the weakened lock with.
