Ashcan nods, satisfied by the answer. It doesn't mean they'll avoid all NATO entanglement during the mission - Lennart's still a General, with all the official security that implies - but at least if they pull it off successfully, NATO won't be hunting them afterwards to get their top-secret data back.

And it's less likely to be something whose absence might provoke WWIII, say.

OOC: This is something Ashcan will raise later in the meeting, after others have had the opportunity to raise any more pressing matters, but I'll post it now so as to minimise PbP comms delays.

"You mentioned that you can provoide vehicles - is that strictly off-the-menu, or can you deliver to order if we have specific requests?"

"Once you've secured the laptop, you will call a contact number, then rendezvous with Anton Dedopovic on the Serbian side of the partition line. He will pay you the balance of your fee in cash and take it from there."

Rudek slides a flash drive across the table to Hung

"This flash drive contains all of the information that we have been able to gather on Brigadier-General Lennart. We have also obtained some satellite photos of Camp Butmir, the military base that hosts both NATO HQ Sarajevo and EUFOR, the European Union force training the Bosniak military and occasionally rousting war criminals."

"You will also find the contact information for Anton Dedopovic. He will transfer the balance of your fees. There is also a phone number to call, along with a basic recognition code, once Dedopovic has completed the transfer."

... on the Serbian side of the partition line.

OOC: To clarify - does this mean crossing the IEBL from Bosnia and Herzegovina into Srpska? (Someone named that place with a lousy hand of Scrabble tiles!) It doesn't look like Camp Butmir is very far from the boundary. Wikipedia implies there's not really anything in the way of border control, which makes it easy to cross, but I'm guessing it also means it's not one of those cases of "If you get across the line, you're out of the jurisdiction of anyone who's chasing you"?

OOC: There are two different borders you will need to be crossing. The first is the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this case the border crossings near Dubrovnik are closer to a 4km no-mans land between the countries, with the border in the middle. The farther away from cities and/or main border crossings you get the less guarded they are. This is something that you guys would know. (and you will get a bit more info on that in the morning after I give others a chance to post should they desire.)

The other border is between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. That is more of the wild west, and the border guards, if there are any there, are likely to be less organized than the ones between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

OOC: Ah, okay - so Dedopovic is in Serbia (like, 100 kilometres from Sarajevo, at least a couple of hours' drive), not in Republika Srpska (the Serb-dominated political entity within Bosnia, whose boundary is somewhere near the eastern edge of Sarajevo)?

(Sarajevo marked below - right next to the Republika Srpska boundary, but quite some distance from Serbia.)

Mace carefully looks over the picture of the Brigadier-General, making copious mental notes about the details he would have to replicate to impersonate him should the need arise. When he finally looks up the conman glances at his companions and comments, "You know, Rudek, this seems like a relatively simple job compared to the team of highly specialized, competent, and diverse, um, 'troubleshooters' we have assembled here. If the security were really that good where he is staying then why would it be notable that he is not supposed to take his laptop home with him?" Mace looks around at his companions, lips turned up ever so slightly. "I am sure the rest of you were thinking it too, right?" he says, putting his hands behind his head and leaning back.

"Never underestimate the power of red tape, boyo," Ashcan puts in. "His quarters are on the NATO base, same as his office, roight? So even though the security should be the same - if the regulations say computers don't leave the office, that's Holy Writ to the military moind."
